Been a modest fan of theirs for years but saw them tonight for the first time at Massey Hall.

Man what a show!

In the running for my concert of the year.

Last year was the Jayhawks at the Horseshoe Tavern.

Year before that was Dr. Lonnie Smitth at Upstairs. (Not really a current "band" in the same sense but couldn't resist).

Your favourites?

E Street Band (just wrapped up tour in New Zealand)
Snarky Puppy (just saw them at Kennedy Center DC)
Gov't Mule (seeing them in May Warner Theatre DC)
Joey DeFrancesco and The People (seeing them in June Blues Alley DC)

all different genres of music, "best" is subjective of course

Springsteen and the E-Street band. Seen them a number of times and never once have I felt they were just 'going through the motions'.

Adele last Friday night. Superb voice, killer band and BV's, excellent FOH sound taking into account it was a Stadium and there was an audience of 95,000. 2nd largest since the Sydeny Olympics in 2000.

But really looking forward to Midnight Oil wrapping up their world tour in Sydney in November 2017. I am hoping this will be my best concert of 2017.

I haven't been there myself, but I heard a lot of good things about Muse. Don't know if they are big in the US though.

+1 from my side on Snarky Puppy. Going to see them again in June.

I haven't been to any big shows in a while. I like the smaller venues. Recent shows I saw that I enjoyed- Todd Rundgren did a show with what was almost EDM remakes of his tunes. He was in excellent voice and the remakes were all keyboards. Lots of backing tracks but at least you knew he didn't download them from a karaoke site.

Joe Louis Walker at a small blues venue (150 people or so) here in DE. Killer players, super nice guys.

Victor Wainwright at the same venue. I was able to stand on a balcony that looked right down on him and see what he was doing. Another great player and nice guy as well.

Springsteen and the E-Street band for sure. They blow away bands half their age and play twice as long. They have slowed a little here and there but watching Max Weinberg is incredible.

I was going to say the same thing, Jason. I hope they come to Ottawa, Toronto, or Kingston sometime in the next few years. I have loved that band ever since I got "Born In the USA" as part of the 11 cassettes for a penny deal that Columbia Record House offered in the 80s.

I think Darlington County is my favourite song on that album today. And I just realized, what I like about Bruce is what I like about old country music. They are story songs.

He should. He was in Toronto in 2012 at the Rogers Centre. I had seen him in Buffalo that year in April. Wes he comes to Hamilton ON also sometimes.

2Cellos. Amazing concert.

My wife's eyes were wattery in some of the slow songs. She doesn't particularly dig the rock covers they do (ac/dc, stones, hendrix) - she doesn't like 'guitar rock' - but she loved the first part of the concert.

I always try to keep an eye, since a lot of the medium size / non-mainstream acts will do a show here once in a blue moon, not as well advertised, and often sell out quickly. Hiromi's concert last year I found out through constantly checking sites and mailing lists; most of my friends were "Hiromi who?"

Big guys (i.e. U2) come often.

I regret missing out on Muse not long ago. That's quite the spectacle they tend to put on--nothing like a huge theatrical show once in a while!

Not sure if they still tour around, but I've seen Medeski Martin and Wood twice and that isn't to be missed.

Seen them several times and I agree. One sign they are a great live band is that there have been records that I have bought and thought "meh"...and then saw them play it live and loved the record after that. (Notably Sky Blue Sky.)

Although this may be blasphemy in a keyboard forum, I'll add that I could see Nels Cline play a duet with a kazoo player and it would still be a great show.

Only saw them once, but Gregg Allman and his band can really bring it. Some smokin' players in his line up.

EDIT:

Sadly, I guess you can eliminate the "current" component of my post.

Gregg Allman cancels remaining 2017 tour dates

ARW for sure!

Steely Dan - amazing musicianship, horn section, and the Danettes!

Recently saw Walter Trout in Santa Cruz, small venue and blown away by his talent - didn't even know who he was the day before. Bluesman extraordinaire!

I'm going to see the Zombies O & O tour; it'll be the third time in 3 years I've seen Rod Argent & Co.

I'd also recommend catching Brian Auger if you ever have the chance.

Each of these are Hammond/Keyboard centric; even better, they play comfortably small, mature venues.

Billy Joel - Understand, I saw every tour between Turnstiles and River of Dreams. He still rocks and the musicianship is top notch. Great light show as well.

Phish - Totally blew me away.

The Pretenders - After so many years, still one of the most aggressive bands I have ever heard live, and I saw the MC5 in the 70's!

ARW - Another great show with amazing performances, musicianship, and lights.

Steely Dan - See above...

Austra! The way Katie Stelmanis commands the stage..it's like she's the Canadian daughter Bono never knew he had. I also love (Austra drummer) Maya's mix of electric and acoustic drums with drum machines.

My girlfriend has been a fan of Brandi Carlisle and for a long time and we've seen her twice recently. That the band is named for her is a bit misleading as the "twins" are equal partners and musical collaborators. If they come to your town make an effort to see them. High energy, great musicians and fabulous songwriting.

Love here for Umphrey's. Saw them at the Filmore in Philly as well. Great players no doubt, great show, but more of a pure listening experience than a get up and dance party band. Galactic (and Robert Randolph Band opening) had the place rockin' Just a different type of music.

Don't get me wrong, I loved ARW and would go see them again; BUT I saw Steven Wilson a week before I saw ARW in the same venue and Steven Wilson blew them (and most other groups I've seen) away. Very powerful stuff. Hands down best concert I've seen in years.

I love Muse's music but I have very little desire to see a band with 10,000 of my friends. Just as soon watch them on TV as their live performances are all over cable.

In contrast, I flew to Burbank last week to see a rare appearance of Cosmosquad at the Baked Potato. Place can't even hold much more than 100 people unless the Fire Marshall is paid off. No keyboard content but what an amazing show. That's my kind of concert.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9hI_syUX5I

I might try to sneak out to see Wilco though, based on what you guys are saying.

Love Muse. Drove from Alabama to St. Louis to see them a few years ago. They are touring again in the US now. Believe they are bigger in Europe than the States though...

I always see Muse when I can, they always do something spectacular. Every tour is a step up with the theatricals and concept. And I love the music too, which helps!

Love The Aristocrats live too, proper intelligent shred. It wasn't really my kind of music until we toured with them - I saw their show every night for 3 weeks and wasn't bored once. Every show they're experimenting and having a laugh, they never go through the motions.

The few times I've seen Springsteen & The E Street Band I come away thinking that's what a live rock show is supposed to be. They're just ridiculously entertaining and they sound GREAT live.

As for whose "best" currently, I don't know, but I do know I'm looking forward to seeing Midnight Oil, Iron Maiden, and Fleet Foxes in the next couple of months. I also know that Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls were awesome when I saw them kick off their latest US tour in late January.

Wish this was in better quality. I don't think all their shows involve giant video pillars for each member (except the lowly extra keys/guitar/percussion player who stays at the bottom LOL), but this one does grin
(couldn't get the place-in-time link to work, band kicks in around 2 minutes)

Yeah, they only did that for one tour. The one after that they had a tower block:

After that they had a bit of a Pink Floyd tribute:

The towers shoot fire, because of course they do. I liked that one as they also had lots of live actors in various parts of the stadium interacting with the filmed stuff.

Then they decided that attaching lights to scaffolding was boring and a mug's game so they decided to make them fly:

As I said, always worth a watch...
