Kubiak was an easy choice for Elway. I'm not sure where he'll find the next head coach. In the meantime, his team sure seems motivated to win one last game for the Gary.

Nonetheless, it's sad to see the defending champs reduced to the role of spoilers. It's been awhile since neither super bowl contestant made the following postseason:

Both Super Bowl teams will miss postseason for first time in more than a decade

Oakland doesn't look like they'll go far without Carr (sorry Dave), but there's still plenty of hope for the future.

Best,

Geoff

The Rams appropriately finished the inaugural season of their return to Los Angeles with a fumble. I hope they draft well and pick great coaches to create a team that is reborn in LA.

Congrats and condolences to ProfD. Your Redskins may have been eliminated today, but you still hold the lead in the Pick 'em Pool going into tonight's game.

Speaking of which, with Washington out both the Lions and Packers are in regardless of tonight's outcome. The game is simply for division title and seeding—still a big deal, but neither team risks elimination.

Best,

Geoff

Well how about that? After four straight losses, Aaron Rodgers said he thought the Packers could run the table on the season; and they did it—six straight wins to end the season and win the division title!

(Great Hail Mary by Matthew Stafford and Golden Tate to end the game, though.)

Next week, the Packers are home at Lambeau to face the Giants. Sweet!

That's eight consecutive postseason appearances for this squad, extending a franchise record. It's hard at first to believe, considering a past that includes Vince Lombardi and Brett Favre; but of course, the playoffs had no Wild Card teams in Lombardi's day.

Best,

Geoff

Packers continue to come on strong - looking real good going into the playoffs. Atlanta as well, imo they're the big unknown going forward but fun to watch no matter who they play.

As to those Redskins, they are also fun to watch and always provide for exciting close games. Should easily have predicted the outcome of that one. Except in Pick'em where I can do no right when it counts mad.

Just like Kirk Cousins roll

Well, the Skins have made one smart move this offseason in firing the D-Coordinator and 3 of his assistants.

Hopefully, we'll try to get Gus Bradley instead of going after Rex Ryan. cool

No surprises today. Can't help but feel the Raiders would have went a lot further if Carr hadn't gotten the bad break; but they're young and will contend for awhile. I don't see anyone getting passed NE in the AFC anyway.

It's a shame the Raiders were stopped by injuries in their comeback year. It would have been great if we could have seen healthy teams playing each other today.

Condolences to Dave and congrats to steadyb (if you're lurking).

Packers vs. Giants is the least predictable matchup of the four games this weekend. Green Bay is on a roll and has home field advantage but also has a history of losing to New York at Lambeau in the playoffs in recent years. The Giants also have a great defense and a matchup of Eli and Odell on offense that can be unstoppable when they're hot. I'll breathe a sigh of relief if the Packers win tomorrow.

That said, no matter how deep Green Bay goes, this year has already exceeded my expectations from when they were 4-6.

GO PACKERS!!! thu

Geoff

doesn't happen often this far into the season. Imagine where the Vikings would have ended up if AP hadn't been injured early in the season. Just one of many scenarios. That's football, right Goeff?

Maybe. Good well rounded team. Or Pittsburgh, able to put up points. Hey, any given, Sunday, as they say.
The NFC is much more interesting this year. There are 4 teams I could see going to the Super Bowl (Seattle, GB, Dallas, Atlanta) . In the AFC, there is the Pats. vs. the field.

I've been enjoying the snowy Wild Card Weekend, or as we call it in New England, 2nd bye week. smile

IMO, the Steelers are the threat to the Pats winning the AFC championship. Otherwise, the Pats waltz into the Super Bowl.

It would be great for the Seahawks, Packers or Falcons to win the NFC championship. I just don't want to see that stupid star at the big show. laugh

Regardless which NFC team shows up, I don't think any of them have enough balance in all 3 phases to stop the Pats from winning another Super Bowl. cool

I didn't think Miami had a chance, now I know they dont smile

I dont think Andy Reid and Alex Smith can go into Foxborough and beat Belichick and Brady. I do think the Steelers can, but the occasion of Goodell giving the Pats the trophy is an enormous motivation for BnB. Could be their swan song.

The NFC is open, Todays afternoon game is huge. Rodgers is on one of those streaks, and what if Eli gets on a similar groove? I was also impressed with Seattle yesterday; had a feeling they'd win, but they made some really bigtime playoff caliber plays. Atlanta? Dallas? It's going to be fun.

Dang, I missed the pickem pool, again. Next year...

Geoff, good luck in the next few hours. Of course I am a Giants fan, but I appreciate greatness, and Aaron Rodgers has it. He has been on another great run, and his arm is all time great. He can do things that no other QB in history can do. Accuracy on the run etc. I don't put him ahead of Brady, but my what a great matchup that would be in the SB!

However, I am rooting for the Giants to beat Green Bay, again; beat the Boys, again; Atlanta/Seattle and then the Pats, again. Long shot, but That's what us fans do.

snax cheers taz

My condolences, antimatter. The Giants have made some great postseason runs in recent memory, and they went through Lambeau to do it. I was a nervous wreak during most of the first half because I know the greatness your favorite team is capable of, and they were getting it done. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Eli Manning retire with another ring or two.

I think the turning point was when Jordy Nelson got injured. It seemed to fire up the Packers; and after that, they looked unstoppable. That successful Hail Mary didn't hurt either. The football gods seem to love Green Bay!

I'm glad that the Packers finally got a postseason victory at home against the Giants. Did anyone else see the stat that had Eli tied with Aaron Rodgers for the third most postseason wins by a quarterback in Green Bay?

My concern at this point is whether the Packers will have Nelson or Ty Montgomery back anytime soon. Both injuries looked pretty bad! At least Randall Cobb is back and playing great.

Dallas will be another tough matchup next week. I expect a close game.

Best,

Geoff

Well looks like it's you and me next week Goeff. saber

As to the pick'em only thing I could do was pick the long-shots in the hope of gaining some points. Not working too well and I much prefer picking the team I actually want to win. Oh well.

NFL Network is tearing up the Giants tonight. Mostly about the trip to South Beach after last's weeks win and then walking around Lambeau Field before the game today shirtless. facepalm

That's it- no more party trips to Miami. mad
Better year for the Giants than I expected. Some tweaks and they can be in this thing next year, though I am not sure how much more Eli has left in the tank.

Very nice slate of games next week, 3 out of 4 anyway. Time for Mattt Ryan to show MVP stuff, and Dak Prescott to match up with Aaron Rodgers in the playoffs. Steelers-Chiefs should be a great one. Houston will be a sparring partner for NE- I know"any Sunday", but BB with a bye/ home game?

I can certainly understand that sentiment. The outcome of the matchups was fairly predictable.

However, even with a 3rd string QB, I incorrectly thought the Raiders would win if they could force the Texans QB into making mistakes. That didn't happen.

But, those hits in the Steeler-Dolphins game and that Hail Mary TD pass in the Packers-Giants game were highlight reel material. laugh

On another note...

IMO, the Giants did not lose because their WRs hung out in Miami. They picked a playoff game to come out and play flat. No sense of urgency whatsoever.

The Skins must have sprinkled some of that same lazy dust on the G-Men during their final game last week. grin

Still, I look forward to the matchups next weekend. The NFC games should be competitive. Maybe KC will put up a fight with the Steelers. cool
