Hi all,
I haven't been to the forum for a while. I thought I'd just drop in to answer any questions anyone might have. It seems I'm the center of some kind of controversy, and I need to find an avenue for defending myself. I hope I'm not spamming again. If so, goodbye until the next time!

The one they did a terrible review of in the December Bass Player. What do they call it? Of course you have to do your homework if you want good results, though, which is something the Bass Player reviewer neglected to do. Thanks for asking. I hope I'm not spamming again. If so, goodbye for now.

So I'm guessing that your preamp received an unfavorable review from BP. Are we supposed to rebut that review?

Why do I even need a preamp? In the past I used a preamp and power amp until I got tired of lugging around a heavy rack of stuff.

I'm using various amp heads: SWR, Genz-Benz and GK and the preamps that are part of those systems sound fine to me. I'm playing in bands which play at parties and the ambient noise level makes tiny details inaudible. My sound comes from my hands and I sound pretty much the same no matter which bass or amp or cable I am using.

In the studio I use a Countryman direct into the board.

I'm not sure why you started this thread.

Suppose someone puts you down for the whole world to see with no provocation. How do you react? They promised a review of a product that I make. They promised to consult with me prior to publishing the review. If you want details about the product PM me. Now I can say I'm a marketing guru -- an instant vintage one!!

Oh, man. I remember that review. Was pretty brutal, and IMO, not a good thing. Reminded me of when my local free paper reviewed my CD and totally panned it. The fella lambasted me for it being an instrumental disc even though I had really hip names for the songs. I wonder what I did to piss him off, or if he just needed one "stinker" on the list to keep credibility.

"Velvet Elvis" was pretty cool. https://soundcloud.com/paul-kempkes/the-velvet-elvis

Here's what I've come to realize after these past years of interacting with social media and the Internet: most people comment about things not to bring insight or understanding to an issue, but to communicate their own (self-imagined) sense of superiority.

So this is the filter I always try to use before commenting on anything--online or in person: am I saying this to just make myself feel superior over the other person, or am I saying this because I think it can truly help someone better understand or think about the topic at hand?

If the former, I keep my mouth shut (not always successfully).

Yeah, I noticed that the past few issues have been full of praise for basses and effects with big, full round tone or some such thing. Now they let down the hammer on me. Retaliation? doubtful. Sadism? possible. Who knows really!
Anyway, I listened to your song. You got the Jaco tone down. Nice!

Is there a place where I could try out this preamp?
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Sadly, I will not be at NAMM this year.

Westwood Music in West L.A. I'm always looking for new dealers, so tell your favorite mom and pop music store to contact me. There are several stores in Texas, too if you ever spend any time there.
