If anyone is interested, Korg has shipped 90 of the Miku Stomp pedals to the U.S., to test the market, I guess. My FLMS got 3 of those, and of course, I got one. Still testing it out, but I'll have some tracks up soon. I don't know who got any of the others, but I suspect they mostly went to independents, rather than GC. I guarantee you, you don't have anything like it.

Korg Miku Stomp

This part interested me more than all the demos I've seen thus far:

A dedicated iPhone app makes it easy to enter lyrics

In addition to the internal preset lyric patterns, MIKU STOMP provides a user area that lets you vocalize any desired lyrics. Operation is easy; use the dedicated iPhone app to enter text data, load it via your guitar pickup, and then just play your guitar. Hatsune Miku will immediately start singing your original lyrics. The user area accommodates up to 6,000 characters (*), so you'll be able to enter an entire song worth of lyrics.

* Although this iPhone app can be used with an English system, MIKU STOMP's vocal functionality supports only Japanese. While it does not support input of English lyrics, it does support input of "romaji," the method of using the Latin alphabet to express Japanese. When entering Japanese directly, hiragana and katakana input are supported.

I have an iPhone...now I'd just need to learn enough Japanese to make the feature useful (if I bought the pedal). I know a little bit, but my vocabulary needs expansion.

I've been running through what I call a "Stupid Loop", in trying to access the iPhone app. First off, it's only available through the Japanese iTunes Store, so I can't download it directly to my iPhone - can't use my computer as a workaround, for the same reason. If I try to create an iTunes account with the Japanese iTunes store, it asks me for an address in Japan, then switches me back to the U.S. iTunes store. There's probably a workaround, or else Korg and iTunes may make the app available over here, now that they're shipping the pedal, but for now, you can't get there from here.

Yes, but the point of the Miku is that you sound like Miku, not that you sound like very bad Frampton. ;)

'Besides, I'm playing a guitar, not a mutant wind instrument... or a virtual little Japanese girly-girl... '

;)

I suggested the Banshee 2, half-kiddingly, half-seriously, as a possible means to get a similar effect... 'S all good. :)

I must confess, I like the sound of layering the talk-box effected tone over the straight-amp-tone, as per the example given in that promotional vid...

And everyone forgets the fantastic use that David Gilmour put the talk-box to, when the topic of famous examples comes up...

Caevan, I love the idea of the Talk-Box sound, but never wanted to invest in one. My workaround for the Talk-Box sound involves a small synth with a Vocoder; sing into the Vocoder mic, and trigger synth tones with my guitar, via MIDI. I can also run the guitar audio signal through a second Audio In jack, so my voice modulates the guitar sound.

The DigiTech GNX4 has a similar mic-based 'talk-box'/'vocoder' type effect, but for whatever reasons, I just didn't cotton to it that much.

Digitech's Obscura, anyone?

Cool. I like the pseudo reverse/gated-delay effects. And I REALLY like the "warp" ramp-up/down in pitch and speed when tap-tempo changes are toe-tapped. I wouldn't mind if that were a switchable option on my El Capistan. Speaking of which, it doesn't make me want to replace my beloved El Cap, but if I had moneys to burn, I might buy one to go with it. Speaking of which, what is the going rate for one, or is it even available for sale anywhere yet? I mean, it's been what, since last January or before that it's been publicised?

Aaaand it is now on sale:

And now, for something...well...not COMPLETELY different, but unusual: an overdrive pedal with a rude name

At least it aspires to be a truly original Crapulator, not just another TS clone. You'll either love or hate that signal breakup, excuse me, 'crackle', and it'll take some nerve to show up with that pedal for a P&W band . . .

I love Crapulators & Randomizers, as I call them, Ring Mods, Bit Crushers, Lo-Fi boxes, what-have-you; anything that chews up your signal and craps it back out, bent, broken and bad-smelling. Any Tube Screamer or Phase 90 is going to sound pretty much like any other Tube Screamer or Phase 90, so if you want stock sounds, they're easy to find, but as the line from Tuxedomoon goes, "Give me new noise!"

There are probably several ways tot do it. A Kaoss Pad might let you do something similar.

The trick is the SPEED with which he can do that. Fingers are much faster than feet.

I think his idea of using his feet/toes would be a good way to go, even though it might require redesigning and using a tapping board like those found on an electric drum kit. It would take practice and probably wouldn't be easy to keep up with what he is doing with his fingers. But, it would free up his right hand to get back on the guitar where it belongs...He could do some tapping, chording, picking, finger picking, etc., and make up some new melody lines as the current concept (although cool) starts sounding too repetitive to me....
Take care, Larryz

Does Roland sell their D-Beams as stand-alone items?

The D-Beam started out as a stand-alone item, then Roland bought out the company that developed the D-beam, and incorporated it into their Synths and Grooveboxes. Used Roland keyboard Synths with an onboard D-Beam show up for more reasonable prices than you're likely to find an original D-Beam on Ebay. FWIW, even an original would be very awkward to mount onto a guitar.

discalimer: I have not gone through every post on this thread so I don't know if this has already been posted - kinda cool though - a whole new level of percussion style guitar playing.
