I'm more interested in the Tom Jones stage-worn suit, myself!

I honestly cannot believe that there have only been 4 bids made on that Rick Danko Ampeg fretless. I wish I was in a position where I could place a legit bid. Especially since Rick recorded such classic songs on it, like "Don't do it".

Something about this makes me sad.

Added P-bass pickups, and that looks like an aftermarket bridge too.

Looks like Rick did that to the bass.

I get that. Rick passed away some 15 years ago, and I'm left wondering what might have been if he had been healthy and able to carry on later into life.

Personally? I would love it if a true fan of The Band bought the bass and got it into the hands of Rick's family or perhaps into a place of honor at Levon Helm's barn in Woodstock, NY. I know that Levon's manager also expressed some sadness about this bass being on the auction block.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if it's Rick's family who is auctioning off the bass?

Doesn't look like it. Seems that bass, at least I think it's the same one, went on ebay for pretty big bucks two years ago. More than it's expected to go for this time.

If I was making a bid I'd want to make sure that the bass didn't come with a lot of bad, unnecessary harmonizing that could ruin the great vocals of Levon Helm.

If this came with a mic without an 'on' switch I'd be much more interested.

The Julien's Auction has a note about the provenance of the bass, stating that Christie's in New York had established them when the bass was auctioned about 10 years ago. That plus the eBay link lead me to believe that the Danko family probably auctioned the bass as far back as 2004, and it's changed hands at least once since then.
