Figured we could use this as a catch-all for mew effects unit news and discussion...anyway, check this out - a box for acoustic guitars that uses the guitar body itself as the "speaker": http://www.gizmag.com/tonewoodamp-acoustic-guitar-effects/33958/

Neato. Not sure it would work with my round-back Ovation, though.

cool That IS cool! Hmmmnnn.... a repeating looper function, as well as an effects-loop I/O, could be mighty mighty cool there...

I'm wondering if this Bitmap thing is something like that olde Digitech Pixellator:

Bit crushers are great Crapulators (my term for anything that intentionally turns your signal into noise), but I'm not sure it's the same sound as the old Space Station Pixellator. Closest thing I've found is the Catalinbread Heliotrope, which is sub-titled Harmonic Pixelator. It's like a Ring Mod on weird street drugs. Another great Crapulator.

Still have my Space Station, I just wish they'd re-issue the damned thing so I could have a back-up.

I'd like to be able to try one of those, or at least hear a GOOD clip or vid demonstrating its virtues and characteristics, particularly dynamic response to "touch" and a guitars volume-knob adjustments.

I see that this pedal's effective ( rimshot ) predecessor, their Helios Tube Fuzz, has apparently been owned and used by David Gilmour in recording for solo and/or 'Floyd projects; here's a vid demoing that pedal:

cool The following features do look interesting:

Love the overall concept, but I hate the idea of having to add a laptop or a tablet to my rig.

It also reminds me of these things - Z-tar

Late in the video, they show an additional gadget that you can use instead of a laptop/tablet to get the signals to your gear. smile

That's the piece that has me actually considering the Wing.

This stereo filter effect has been out for a few months now, but is probably new to most of us guitarists.

You can find audio clips by scrolling down the page at their website; this lil' box can do some really crazy s**t. It would be nice if it had a footswitch input, though.

Looks like someone took the concept behind the EHX Flanger Hoax (multiple interacting Delay/Modulation effects) and carried it to the extreme! That's it, I'm off looking for one . . .

Not an effect, but it looks like a cool floor toy...

Split my signal into discrete paths with different effects, then recombine...

Anyway the box is very simple yet effective. It ties all the jacks together, like a Y-cord (or several Y-cords) but has an AC plug which is used just to ground the box. Then you disconnect grounds on the amps so they all share the same ground through the box.

This is simple and effective but unless you know what you are doing, you could be killed if the grounding is wrong, so I would not sell one due to liability.

Good luck!

Also, has anyone ever experimented with splitting their signal?

That one I posted earlier from Texas Guitar Whiz- as well as similar devices from Lehle, Saturnworks, etc.- I wasn't thinking of going to separate amps with it, but rather, splitting the signal to have different discrete effects & combinations of effects that get recombined at the amp.

For example, imagine having your signal split 2 ways so that one chain goes through a distortion/OD, fuzz and wah, while the other goes through your chorus and B9, rejoining at your amp. To my mind, that would get you a distorted acid wah tone accompanied by celestial synthesized organ tones.

Am I right?

Funny, I was thinking about very similar things just before reading your post...

You are right. I've dabbled in this kind of thing with the two channel-inputs of various combo-amps. I used to have a sweet sounding '80s Arion Stereo Flanger that I'd often use for splitting this way. And a "red-knob" '80s Fender "The Twin" had one of its several inputs that yielded the "clean" and "overdrive/distortion" channels simultaneously, balanced to taste, as well as the more usual separate inputs- both very cool for such applications!

I've also run a tube-amp and its speaker (miked or unmiked, or with or without a D/I output from the amp to the board) along with a digital-modeler/multi-effects direct to a PA and monitors, tube-amp and modeler/mfx in parallel, the signal split and going both ways via the dual/stereo outputs of either a Boss RT-20 Leslie-sim pedal or a Catalinbread Super Chili Picoso splitter/buffer/booster pedal.

I've tried something like this, using a simple splitter box, and two amps; I even have a Volume pedal that doubles as a Balance pedal, so I could play with moving the sound from side to side. It took some tweaking to get the sound balanced, and even then, I wasn't convinced that it was worth the effort. In a small, intimate setting, that kind of thing can be a neat trick, in a large room or hall, no one really notices the faux-stereo effect.

Never tried using a splitter, then summing the two signal chains again? I could see where you might run into some weird phase issues trying that - like running two parallel Modulation effects. I could also see where you might have some issues with gain structure.

I ask because it is something I've been considering- obviously- and was wondering about others' experiences before dropping hundreds of dollars on an experiment. Splitters from Saturnworks, Carl Martin and Lehle run $95-195-295, respectively. Not including cables, of course.
