Yes, Phil is right. The markups are different in different areas (guitars versus mics versus PA enclosures versus cables). the big mistake folks make is thinking that the "street price" (what they actually pay for a piece of gear) is still heavily marked up for profitability. In many cases, this is way off base...

You're not kidding, boys. Many's the time some joker walked off the guitar floor, where he received approx. 40% off MSRP on his guitar and amp, and now he wanted the same discount on a 4 track and microphones. Well, some mics have deep discounts, but electronics... not ususally. And if it wasn't a 4-track, it's PA gear or a rack multi-efx processor. You might not believe the deer-in-the-headlight looks I got from people when I made them a deal on pro audio gear. )

Man, this is always one of my favorite threads. I'm definitely a bit of a gear junkie. But, three actual "rumors" out of over 30 posts!?!? And all of those were mentioned in other threads. Come on people, let's get this back on topic. I know some of you have some scoops to share.

NDA's... gotta love 'em. Unfortunately, I'm currently under a couple of 'em myself so I can't really say much either. Besides, there's a ton of new stuff I'm sure others know about that I have not heard of. Any more rumors?

Agreed on the pubic day(s).

Well, yeah. What's the fun of a trade show without a pubic day? \:D

Fun during the show maybe, but think about the aftermath!!! What exactly are you trading on pubic day?!?

Why go to NAMM?
On a serious note, I have friends who have scored endorsement and beta tester deals at NAMM. I've reconnected with former clients there, resulting in extra work. I love the opportunity to watch new product demos and question developers face to face. NAMM Shows are a chance to get a jump on the competition and a chance to plan my gear budget ahead of release dates.

On a personal level, I have friends who have moved far away who I never get to see outside of their yearly trek to Anaheim. In recent years, I've also found the opportunity to meet and reconnect with forum members at NAMM.

Each NAMM Show is a valuable experience for me in many ways. \:\)

Best,

Geoff

Harmony Central is posting product rumors .

The link above is also where they'll be posting their show coverage of new gear as well.

Best,

Geoff

Hi,

I heard that Line 6 will not have a booth at NAMM this time. They have invited all the international ditributors to a bash at their place instead. Does this mean they have nothing to show or is it the opposite, a huge announcement? I don't know. What I do know is that it is very, very expesive to rent floor space at NAMM so maybe they igure that it is better value to spend the same money on a US product clinic tour.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Cheers,

Mats N

Weasel could tell us, but then he'd have to kill himself. NDA's can be pretty tough. We need da Weasel. We'll wait.

You fellas know you can go to the NAMM website and see a list of exhibitors. Sometimes it gives you a clue. For those under the constraints of a NDA, you can be like Deep Throat and give us some hints. Go ahead, spill a little, you can say, "Expect to see something from XYZ company."
