Kawai has gone all out with this one: "Featuring the same tone generator, DSP power, D/A converters, and 32 of the finest sounds from the MP11"

And it's a beautiful design.

Supports the F-30. Looks most cool. I would not
mind upgrading the MP-5.

I listened to the demos sounds real good

but not to be Debbie Downer but

46 pounds

great organ sim but only 4 sliders real time you have to menu over for the other 4 + 1 ?? OK its not an SK or Kurz or VR 09 or ???
ANd yes my CP4 doesn't have sliders I can shlep my Stage 2 for draw bars so kind moot point for an all in one vs two boards..you win that point

"Other" sounds strings horns synths ..

OTOH the piano extra programming pedal/strike . etc sound great
on my computer speakers

I/O pedals, connectivity are first class from the demo

Finally PRICE?

I am not dissing the Kawai, I just sunk some money into a CP4 and now wonder "should I have waited for the next best thing from another vendor?"

Buyers regret? no such thing huh >?

Looks like a nice board, but you have to spring for the MP11 if you want wood keys (ala CP4).

I've still got my heart set on the VPC-1.

Keys with wood are not the same as wooden keys.

I think that key length is more important than the material used.

I think the real question is, are the drawbars MIDI accessible? If they are, you could hook up an Ocean Beach DB1. If not, well, I'd still prefer to play organ on a separate board (unless this turns out to have a killer Hammond/Leslie sim).

From the little I've heard, I'd say these are a real advance on what's in the MP6.

I'm kinda glad I returned my CP4. wink Especially if the price comes in not much higher than the MP6.

I don't like the way those right hand piano notes sound in the demo. They sound plinky to me. I am listening with Sony MDR 7506 headphones. Also, the Rhodes is not the classic sound I would want.

Jazz+, the MP7 uses many of the same sounds as the MP11, so you may wish to visit www.kawaimp.com and listen to more of the larger model's demos to get a feel for how the MP7 also sounds.

The Rhodes in that vid sounded like Roland SA to me. Not the classic sound, but an alternate sound that I welcome. SA got me thru the 80's without having to succumb to the DX7, and I remember it fondly. grin

Nice looking board, but it didn't hit me in the gut the way its big brother did a couple of weeks ago.

Maybe I'm suffering from brain overload, what with this, the MP11, the new Roland's, the XK1c, Moxf et al, all within the last few months.

Having said that, it's great to have such an amazing choice these days, surely there is something for everyone available out there now!

I don't find the onboard 4-slider drawbar scheme too off-putting considering that, if you're the kind of organ player who needs real-time drawbar control, you probably don't want to be playing organ from a weighted action. Still, it's great that it does have the option for MIDI control as well.

It's the same weight as the Artis, if you really want the 9 sliders, though I expect the Kawai will have the preferable action. Curious to see how the price compares...

First impressions are it looks very nice. It certainly has an air of quality both the most recent arrivals from Yamaha and Roland have lacked, TBH, but of course that is reflected in the weight.

In my experience, there is something of a watershed point when we talk about that issue. For me, anyway, a board weighing around 17kg or less can be put in a soft gig bag and carried reasonable distances (i.e. those of a typical load-in).

Anything above that and you tend to be in wheeled case territory. And inevitably, a wheeled case, even a 'soft' one, requires a rigid skeleton which is going to considerably add to the hand-lift weight, which you are going to encounter negotiating steps or hauling the thing in and out of your vehicle.

I like the sound of the MP7 very much, although I do notice a thinness and slightly brittle quality in the piano sound in the video demo above C5. I'm fairly confident that could be fixed fairly easily in the editing, though. One thing that has become clear to me is that the Yamaha and Roland at least don't appear to show to their best advantage with the factory defaults, and certainly the former at least (the only one I have practical experience with so far) improves substantially with just a bit of tweaking.

Anyway, nicely done product, James and congratulations on the new arrival. Had I the spare dosh and the ability to justify it to the better half, I'd buy an MP11 tomorrow for my studio. That's where it would be staying, though - oof! smile

I wonder how that new control panel will work.

The thing about the MP-5, 6, and 8 style panel is when you have a 2 tier rig you can still see the controls.

Yeah, the angled panels are nice (also similar to the Korg SV-1).

The first pic that comes up on the MP7 page shows an image through a fish-eye lens which gives the board a curve. I have to admit, I thought that looked like a pretty interesting design right there... not the most practical, but eye-catching!

The more I listen to these new offereings, here with the MP7, the CP4 and RD8000, I'm seriously considering the Nord Piano2. None of them have sealed the deal.

@16251: I would think the RD800 might be a nice fit for you coming from a FP-4. It seems the edibility and versatility on the RD800 would give you great AP and EP sounds that might be almost as good or equal to the NP2. Plus the RD is cheaper and obviously better action. Go back to GC and demo it again. Just bring some good headphones this time. You cant judge it on one crappy studio monitor. You can probably a/b it with the Nord Stage 2 that GC usually has on display. I like the RD800 very much and prefer a few things about it over Nord, Kawai MPs, and even my own CP4.
