My old 70s Swede is finished I need to get it. Will probably be next week.

My tech says I will like the pickups. I've never used these before. Dimarzio Tone Zone in the bridge and PAF int the neck. I guess I will find out.

He said he was able to tint the binding to match the age of the guitar. He is good. I told him not to go crazy on this. I only paid a couple hundred for old thing.

I LOVE those old Hags. Had a chance to buy one and hesitated two seconds too long. Saw it at a pawn shop, and by the time I went to try and grab it, the shop owner, also a guitar picker, realized what it was and took it off the wall a half hour before I showed up!

DANG!

Was asking $225, and $50 extra for the case. Was that a good price? The thing looked factory fresh. It was a '71 Viking.

I can. She is no beauty queen but I like the way it plays. I think it cost me a couple of hundred used. The binding job, and new pickups are going to cost more than I paid for the guitar. The Explorer will probably go bye bye one I have the Hag back.

the ToneZone is a nice pickup a bit more bass than a super distortion.
my Charvel had a TZ and an EVO.

Massive rains hit and flooded the shop floor and there were some other excuses and it wasn't done when I showed up to get it. Which was at a time we agreed I would get it. He needed to string it and reattach the neck.
That is par for the course. He is slow but he does damn good work but he is a one man shop. I am working in Nashville this week. Maybe it will be ready when I get home on Saturday.

If I absolutely had to have it would have been done a longtime ago but he knows I have a bunch of other guitars that I play out. I will take a picture. When I get it back.

Just got a call It is really done I guess.

Only $65 over budget. He fixed some deep dents that I really didn't care about. Replaced some corroded screws that I wasn't worried about. Includes a new case because the old case has fallen apart, 2 new humbuckers, new binding on the bottom side of the neck which he tinted to age match the rest of the guitar, fixed the lo-pass switch I never used.

Total damage $415. I only planned on spending $350 on this thing. The guitar only cost me a couple hundred but I loved the action. Plus I keep all the vintage pickups and part incase some future owner want to put it back to stock.

He is more excited about this guitar than I am. grin I will pick it up when I get back in from Nashville.

Here is the old guitar. The pickups work well the neck is a Bluesbucker and the bridge is a Tone Zone. I have a set of chrome dome knobs I may put on it.

I have the original parts if someone wants to make it stock again. I may take decent pictures at tomorrow's gig.

The new binding on the bottom of the neck was snow white. he did a good job of tinting it.

Man, LOOK at that profile! You could BLOW on them strings and hit the fretboard. And I always thought Hagstrom had the coolest looking headstock! I'd be PROUD to be seen on stage shredding that honey.

The keys go to the rack on the floor and to a stereo DI. I run mono. I use the 2 channel DI to separate the Hammond from the rest of the keys. I monitor the keys from 2 EV ZXA1s. The guitars go to my pedal board then to a 50 watt Mesa Boogie combo.

The Boogie likes to run a little too loud. Too loud for some places. I have this little 5 watt combo I use sometimes. It is OK for what it is. I sold an old Ensoniq KS-32 to get it.

My pedalboard is a mess. I want to change it badly but I don't know how right now.

Sometimes, to create, you must first destroy.

I had to break down my board completely recently, and I'm reconstructing it over time. It will not be what it once was, I guarantee.

Plus: get a Carl Martin Octa-Switch.

Nice setup. Do you have one EV low and one up high? Do your vocals go through the EV's as well? Or is that another monitor?

The strings are setup razor close. This is one of the earliest Swedes. The sometime later in the 70's they went to a standard tune-o-matic style bridge. These old Hags had twin screws for each saddles and allow you to adjust both intonation and string spacing. They also changed to a curved tailpiece. I always liked the neck profile better than anything else I've ever played. I like less common guitars like Robin, early Reverend, Hagstrom ect...

I leave both EVs on the floors That speaker on a stand is my monitor. We have one sound guy who elevates my monitor. He runs a nice mix out front but his monitors suck it is the only way I can hear them. I don't think he knows how to EQ monitors. Part of it is he can't get the right angle on the floor wedge for when I am sitting. He uses peavey passive monitors. Everyone else uses either EAW, QSC or RCF. That maybe part of it too.

Some of us old-timers can recall when Hagstrom advertised as having the "World's Fastest Neck". Noodled around with a few at stores back in the day, and have to agree. The only maker, now gone, that came close to Hag was Mosrite.

I knew a guy once that had a Swede guitar, and years later found a near identical Swede bass in a pawn shop for a couple hundred clams and got it.

He let me play the bass while he played guitar- that swede bass was twice as heavy as my P and short scale, but played pretty good. It had a dark and muddy sound like the Gibson basses but was still a blast...
