...a reference to the infamous `ding fries are done` video...

There was a discussion recently about protest songs-I recall mentioning John Mayer`s `Waiting for the World to Change`. It seems that a site called Collective Evolution which posts a lot of things related to alternative medicine etc. liked it too-they posted the lyrics and a video of JM doing an acoustic version. While watching it, I noticed his mic placement. One of my problems with solo acoustic is, usually I`m sitting down and tend to place the mic so I can make eye contact with the audience. Then on the occasions when I need to see where I am on the guitar, my voice drops out. I had been thinking I just need to practice more but I saw JM with his mic placed where he could sing and see his guitar. Last night I did a solo acoustic set and I tried lowering the mic-`ding` lightbulb`s on...

Hope your head didn't hurt too much after SLAPPING it. So simple it's INGENIOUS! Somehow, I like those moments, too.

It's good to be able to make eye contact with the audience and still be able to catch a glimpse of the guitar neck, while staying in the mic. Sometimes even pro singers forget that the mic drops out when you turn your head to the side or stop singing into it...

I think you have to experiment until you find the sweet spot, and remember where it is and how to get it with and without a boom stand.
And in the video JM did turn his head for a second-more from getting into the music-and the vocs faded. But it was brief.

Last acoustic open mic a week or so ago, the boom was loose and just when I was ready to start playing, my mic just kinda turned over on it's own but was still facing up at mouth level. I could see the fret board and the audience better so I just left it where it was...it worked out great, and your post could not have been more timely Skip. I will be giving it more thought from now on. thu

Glad to hear that-well speaking of sore heels and butts, here I was beating myself up over thinking I`m incompetent, and a drop of the mic later it`s like, oh...now I`m beating myself up for beating myself up.
