My Hollywood TV Music producer friend Steven Weinglass came down and spent one night in our extra tent with his lady. Then during all the Hollywood tales, he pulls out his Blackberry and says "look at this picture" I look, and there he is photographed sitting in an empty theater with Quincy Jones chatting like old buddies. I did not ask where they were, but it must have been during some screening of one or the others projects. Now of course Steve is not as successful as Quincy, however he is developing several TV series and one of them plays on the Internet it is called Destiny. http://insidecineplexstudios.com/category/steven-weinglass/ Anyways isn't it too cool to hang out with Quincy. I think I gotta visit Steve in his territory and see if I can rub elbows with the biggies. I have been invited.

I already met the script writer of Mississippi Burning at his house a few years back, I also met Malcolm Lukens there that night, who played Keys for Roy Buchanan, and a host of others as well.

Now Steve is an old friend of mine from back in New Jersey he hails from Carney, and his late Brother was Leonard Weinglass who was the famous civil rights lawyer. So it is real casual between us.

I wanna jam with those guys.

You know, he is a good friend from back in the day, so I never ask for anything from him. He is a pop producer and not a bluesman although as a bassist he can play almost anything. Right now at the age of 64 he is playing bass and writing with a young white rap artist. They are doing some neat things with time signatures etc. I will see if I can get the name of that band, and maybe some MP3's although I am not a rap fan I have to say some of the things they are doing are musically advanced at the very least. I got to hear the CD on the way to Torry Pines State Park for the hike we did.

he played me one rap song in 7, I picked it up right away as one time I was hooked up with a couple of bass players who were hooked on Mahavishnu, and Jaco as things they was listening to. Both was enamored of time sig changes and they had a big influence on me that way.

So of course, I told him, now I gotta produce a track in 7, but I think I will go from 7 to 9 to 5 and back to 4 to end the thing. Just for jollies, for amusement not for profit.

I love that stuff too. Now I am inspired to do some stuff, as I have not recorded much in the last few years.

Inspiration is always a good thing but sometimes hard to find so go for it.

Hey DBM - is Steve possibly related to Lenny Weinglass AKA "Boogie" who lives in Aspen?
Boogie is the person that the movie "Diner" was written about. He is a great guy - very successful self made entrepreneur. I was just wondering since you don't hear the name Weinglass everyday. I've known Boogie for many years and my nephew is his ranch manager just outside Aspen.

Steve was related to his now departed civil rights lawyer brother Leonard Weinglass, who defended the Chicago 7 with William Kunsler, and also was Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden lawyer, and he was also involved with many many civil rights cases. Leonard lived in LA and New York City. That is about all I know of Leonard......
