Does anybody here own a Laney amp? Are they as good as Vox, or sub-par? Particularly the VC series, but also the whole company in general. Are they a cheap imitation, or are they just as good as a Vox would be?
Any opinions?

I had a VC 2x10 & to my ear it was as near to a VOX AC30 as you can get (that's why they were built) - I suppose the 2x12 would be even more like the original.

Nothing, to my mind, carries the cache of a real VOX, but these aren't a million miles away.

I think of Laney more for a Rock/Metal sound, and Vox for chime. Don't get me wrong, Vox can rock, but it's a different voice. The Laneys were originally designed in a time when guitarists, and bassists, wanted more power and more volume, emphasis on 'more'. They never quite achieved the brand recognition of other British amps like Marshall, Orange & Vox, but they were good quality amps. Bear in mind, my opinion is based on my experience with the Laneys of old, not the recent reissues, although it seems that their current marketing campaign has embraced the association with the Metal sound.
