When it's slow at work, I sometimes check out music (audio and video) on You Tube.
I've come across some "odd couples" - musicians playing together that you wouldn't normally expect.
1. Miles Davis playing with John Lee Hooker (guitar only); Miles is not playing blues licks, but it works.
2. Julian Bream (the great classical guitarist) jamming with Ali Akbar Khan (the great sarodist; you saw him playing with Ravi Shankar on Concert for Bangladesh). Julian did quite well actually; he played jazz as a kid, and is actually a very fine improviser.
And some that you might expect, but are rare:
3. Charlie Parker doing a tune with Coleman Hawkins - a tune called "Ballade" - two jazz sax titans playing well together.
4. One with Larry Coryell, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia.
And countless others! All you gotta do is google the NAMES and all this stuff pops up.

Any gems that you guys came across, off the beaten track?
On You Tube, I mean.... LOL

BB King & Luciano Pavarotti singing "The Thrill is Gone"

It is one of the most unintentionally hilarious musical performances I have ever experienced,

Wow, that was just weird. Pavarotti's expression is the just the purest personification of "Why am I here?" ever.

Bing and Bowie----the oddest pairing since Jackie and Onassis!

What was funny at the time was that the network thought they'd be so "hip", yet paired together two individuals who, by that time, were NOT, nor really ever HAVE been, spokesmen for their generations.

I agree that the Pavarotti on the "Thrill Is Gone" was a hoot.

One more pairing well worth checking out is Sir Paul McCartney with Carl Perkins in a documentary - the two are great friends, and was one of Paul's idols as a young rocker. The Beatles did some of his tunes, like "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Honey Don't".

You can also see jazz musicians (especially guitarists) sitting in with one another fairly often.

This video doesn't sound all that unusual compared to the songs of the day, but when you look back with the perspective of time and realize The Mynah Birds featured Rick James and Neil Young...

shocked

Weird parings I'd like to see, if only to laugh at;

Al DiMeola & R.L. Burnside

Beyonce' & Luciano Pavarotti(both doing Beyonce's usual choreography)

Paul Williams & Andre the Giant(singing "We've Only Just Begun")

Ray Davies & Lady Gaga(both in meat suits, singing "Low Budget")

Billy Gibbons & Andy Williams (Singing "The Days Of Wine & Roses")
