Oh, man. At an otherwise fun gig Friday night, my Les Paul (currently shown in my avatar-image to the left) got knocked over, stand and all- and badly cracked the neck/headstock... it's been my Main Squeeze since 1998, and it's currently my only electric guitar... My heart sank, and I'm just heartsick...

Damn.

Oh, so sorry Caev - I understand your use of 'heartsick'.

I hope it's one of those occasions where it's a clean break & the repair will end up stronger than the original.

(If your were over here I'd lend you my Studio ST105, but it's a bit far to courier....)

I feel for you.
Just go ahead and get it fixed, Some guitars play, and sound better after the head stock fix. Also time to buy a back up , start shopping for a guitar.

Ohhhh, I've been there... twice in the case of one LP '59 Special.. so did the other guitarist in that band at the time with his goldtop Standard. Luckily we know a guy who fixes them better than new. I just buy them pre-broken, now...

Now, I have one of the suitcase multi-guitar stands the LPs get a bungee cord holding them in.

Condolences. But you can have her fixed good as new by a good luthier.

Oh no no, that is suckful. Sorry to hear. I`m dealing with that heartsick
stuff myself, no fun at all.

I have to say, I used to be kind of derisive toward players who were exclusively studio-kind of like martial artists who are just theoreticians. But for my favorite instruments there`s a point, if I break it at least I already bought it.

My one and only LP got knocked off it's stand by two rowdy cowboys at BBQ ranch gig (by our soundman and lighting guy) back in '83. It had some minor damages and I've never gotten over it to this day. I know you will have fond memories of that axe before the accident and hope it can be repaired. If not, shop till you drop!

You gotta know we feel your pain Caevan and we all wish you a speedy recovery!

People don't think about insuring these things until after something like this happens. That's little to no consolation, I know. But something for pro giggers to contemplate. I frequent the Greektown Casino in Detroit, and on Fri. and Sat. nights they have a band set up in a lounge area that's closely pllaced near the crowd. This sort of thing could actually happen with this arrangement, and I'm surprised it hasn't yet.

I hope it can be repaired. Keep us posted on the matter. After leaning in close enough to get a good look at the photo, I can see why your heart sank. She's a honey.

Man, that's terrible. I don't know what I'd do if that happened to me.
And my les paul is quite a bit less valuable than yours!

I've seen magic with fibreglass that can make the repair invisible. My brown 355 needs that done, but it was just glued over 20 years age and still plays great.

That's a giant suckfest, I'm sorry to hear it. But it can be fixed, probably at least as good as new. Take it to someone who knows what they're doing and get the job done right, and your favorite axe will be back up & playing in a short while.

Thanks, everyone!

I'm going to have Eric Aceto, Ithaca Stringed Instruments, do the repairs. No one finer can be found, it'll be in stellar good hands.

And several people have offered me loaner axes for the time being.

In spite of the bad break, later I still managed to have one Hell of a GREAT time that night! A real blast!

If the injury is mortal- and I'm hoping it isn't- at least it will have perished on stage as it SHOULD.

This sucks but glad you got a loaner and a top notch luthier that you trust. Still going to miss her while she's in for repair though.

Sorry Man - I can remember that happening to me when I was a kid. I was depressed for weeks!

I think I was 15 when that happened to my SG. I got it bonded back and it played even better!

The trauma of that incident never left me. My next guitar was a baseball bat rock maple bolt on. It took me forever to get used to the feel. But, I've never gone back to the neck through thin profile mahogany because of it.
