Are they a poor man's Strat? A good Value? Avoid at all cost? I read there is a Squire version and a Korean version too.

I know the Guitar Forum has the smartest people in music checking in so...

Opinions please? blah

IIRC they were Fender's answer to a superstrat. Not a poor man's Strat but a different animal altogether, hence the different name.

Have you found one?

Looks like some kind of a Frankenstein to me... I'd have to play it to give an opinion.

Over here in the UK, the Squiers are selling for pennies.

Sounds like cool name for a retro-style reissue looking amp. My first guitar teacher had a Dual Showman head with the 2-15 Showman Cabinet.

There were some variations among models - set-neck vs bolt-on, FR vs Fender trem, and so on. It does seem to be a Strat-like guitar aimed at the Metal market. I see the Squier models for around $150, no idea of price on the Fender models.

Yeah, I've seen a few of the Squires going second hand but never the Fender ones. That could mean that they are awesome and no one is selling theirs...or that Fender only sold three of them smile

I like the idea of a rok'n strat style axe that DOESN'T have pointy bits.

I bought a Korean Showmaster FSR from Musicians Friend about 7 years ago for $300, and I'll probably never part with it:

Set neck w/ rosewood (side dots only), carved alder body, black w/ black hardware, Duncan pups (sound like JB's), TUSQ nut, 2 point trem w/ brass tone block. Beautiful fretwork and finish details - stays in tune forever; sounds clean when I need it to and growls when I want it to.

US Showmasters with primo wood and transparent finishes are typically $800+ if you can find one . . .
