Rumor on several other guitar boards is that Fender is shutting Hamer down- anyone able to confirm this?

That's too bad. Time was when Hamer meant an exceptionally excellent guitar, and they played a big role in the resurgence of quality amongst American made guitars and the interest in vintage-inspired designs, materials, and attention to detail. Fender and Gibson had HUGELY dropped the ball in the late '60s through the '70s and pretty much sucked; Hamer was one of the names that filled the void and brought about interest in vintage-influenced models like the Sunburst and Standard. Too bad they were effectively assimilated by the Borg...

Didn't search too hard, just a quick Google, but it does look like Fender is shutting it down.

Kaman bought Hamer in '88, and Fender bought Kaman in '07. The last of the original 3 founders left in '10.

Here's a link w/some cursory info.

As of 2011 Hamer builds guitars on a made to order basis. In late 2012, it was announced that Hamer would end the brand.
