What with PJ doing some of his Stupid Pedal Tricks vids on resurrected old boost/fuzz type gadgets, my mind wandered in that direction(I'm easily led), and I recalled a rather cool little box I had back in the day, around '76. It was made by the Maxon folks, and it masde like a Jordan Bosstone, or an original EH LPB-1 or one of those Dan Armstrong gadgets, in that it plugged into the guitar. It was a black plastic box with a little aluminum band around the front of it that said "Maxon". It had one little black switch and a thumb wheel that raised and lowered the output. It was a cool sounding box. Anybody else ever have one?

now that we know what it is, i'll ask the guys on diy and fsb and see if we can't come up with a match.

with a standard sized input cap. probably 100nf to 1uf instead of the 2nf cap shown.

the only diff between treble boosters and fuzz/distortions is usually the size of that one cap. still digging.





it's almost exactly the same as the electro harmonix boosters...the mole, the screaming tree, the lpb1 etc etc... trivial dif in caps and the 470/47k voltage divider.

PJ, if you can build it inexpensively in a regular enclosure with a footswitch, rather than one that hangs by the plug on the face of the guitar with a slider switch, yes, I'd love one. It wouldn't hurt if it was a lot sturdier than the original was. I seem to recall it broke on me rather easily. But when it worked, that gadget made my Ibanez doubleneck & silverface Twin sound a lot cooler than they did without it.

jimi, let me know if you need some candy tins, I may have something you can use. What kind of depth/width do you need? BTW, those M&M tins show up around the holidays, sometimes. If I see any, I'll get you a couple - can't promise they won't be empty when I send 'em on, though . . .

the small tins are ok, but if they're big, they can't stand up to being stepped on without flexing them.

the little priapism mike got from me is maybe 4 inches around, so it's reasonably studly, but even that one flexes a little bit.

I've been thinking about looking for a washer or spacer wide enough to reinforce the top of the Priapism case.
