Since people are talking about hot rodding guitars etc. I thought I would post some pics of a guitar built by a violin maker friend. I had the opportunity to bring it home and get a few pics.
This guy really loves wood.

Here's one of me playing it Texas style.

Danny,
Not really patriotic as the builder was from Melbourne, and I'm not talking Florida.

Here is a pic of the eagle partying with two buddies from the US.

Also a look at the back. The wood work does not stop at the face of the guitar.

Here's a pic of the front of the roadcase. This was painted by the guy who made the guitar.

Enjoy

That's cooler than that "Flamingo Guitar" featured in the old HBO "Pee-Wee Herman Show" special!

Very cool work of art...I could see Jimmi playing the Star Spangled Banner on that baby...even at a down-under concert... cool

I've found the build details for the Eagle.
For those interested:-

Neck - Maple, straight through.

Body - Mahogony, hand carved.

Fingerboard - Ebony, side stripped with mahogony.
Scalloped from the fret 15.

Pickups - Configured HSH, Dimarzio pro series. (Steve Vai)

Machine heads - Schaller.

Bridge - Kahler 2200 series, locked nut. (Kahler was used as to minimise the routing and to avoid using a spring system.)

Fretwire - medium.

Inlays - Mother of Pearl

Build time - 368 hours, 50 hours of carving.

The case is handmade with laminated plywood with an aluminium bracing. The inlay is sheepskin. The painting is taken from a photo of the Rocky Mountains with the eagles as artistic licence.

Here's a final pic of us putting the girl to sleep in the sheepskin bed.

Very nice!
Definitely has to be played live, it would be a crime to keep something like that in a studio.

If I didn't know better, this could have been written by a member of the legal fraternity:-) There is so much logic there. In fact RM + BEG = how patriotic indicates a very mathematical flow in the logic.

Nice one Danny, and I'm almost stumped for an answer.

But, Italian Violin Maker + love of electric guitarists + love of guitars made in the USA + love of birds = a lovely piece of functional art.

Who is this Ted Nugent guy anyway? Is he a person that hunts guitars with bow and arrow?

Well you should also know that REGARDLESS of if an Italian violin maker made this, a lot of people will associate it with USA and patroitisim, because the Bald Eagle has been a symbol of America for a couple hundred years!

Frankly I don't see what is wrong with that either.

You act like there is. Care to elaborate?

For your information, the Rocky mountains and the Bald Eagle are both in America.

Hi webe123,
It should be noted that there is no evidence of offence, nor have I intended any to exist.

On the contrary, if you pay attention, you will notice that I have set up the photo session in order to emphasise this guitar's association with the USA. In fact I made this a priority to an extent that I shall detail below.

Firstly, the amp in the background is a Peavey. (I would have preferred to have a valve amp but the only alternative was Marshall.)

When it came to the partnering shot, the photographer was ready to opt for an Ibanez and a Maton. I made the call and put in my old battered Gibson and my USA Strat. (Please note the caption which mentions US buddies.)

The caption on the playing photo reads, "Here's one of me playing it Texas style."

What you would not know is that there were many other photos taken. Two people had head shots taken. (Actually three, but please see below.) Both series of head shots make reference to the USA. My headgear consisted of a hat with scarf around it a la SRV. (You can catch the tail of the scarf just above my strumming hand.) The other bloke had a ZZtop beard.

The only non contextual shot was of my young son who could barely see over the guitar. (Man, this is something the little fella can show his kiddies. As a father I couldn't resist.)

The entire shoot, as I hope I have demonstrated, was executed with the full knowledge of this guitar's implications as a USA icon. There is not one photo (Gee, there is one as mentioned.) that can be leaked to the public which doesn't support that.

On the other hand, Danny and I have exchanged some humourous banter centred around the irony that this guitar was made in Australia.

Cheers

Well from your other post, it sounded like you were somehow offended that people were associating this with the US.

My mistake, but I did not know you were "bantering" around with anyone.

No harm no foul.

Danny,
I DIDN'T know.
It was a shot in the dark.
My experience of Ted is an album cover with archery as a theme and the song "Catch Scratch Fever", which I remember playing at gig once. (A gig I would rather forget.)

I was rather flabergasted by the youtube clip.

Now I have visions of him shooting Andy's guitar. (From a properly constructed hide, of course.)

Thanks for that, though we are wandering off topic somewhat.

Cheers

It IS a shot in the dark...so you can see the flaming arrow better! grin

And he does that trick with some decent guitars, too- look Ted up on YouTube.

Turn down your speakers, though: many of the videos of the stunt are essentially cellphone bootlegs with lousy sound.

It could be just the lighting, but on this shot, it kinda looks like close quarters for the left hand up by the nut. It's not hard to play 1st position "cowboy" chords on without running into the wings, is it?

REGARDLESS of the audio quality...

A good pick, Picker,
The bottom wing and the top are not matched. The bottom wing has 50% more space, allowing the palm of your hand quite easy access.
Cowboy chords are quite possible.

If you have a look at the build details you will see that he scalloped the upper fretboard and fitted it with Dimarzios.

His intention was to make it a "speed metal" guitar. It feels like an Ibanez when you play it. Very fast.

Cheers
