It's a cool tour, fun to see how a high tech guitar factory works. At the end they deposit you in their tasting room, to sample the goods.
And just across the river in NJ is the Crayola Museum.

Hehhehhehh... pjp... Crayola factory... "HMMMMNN mumblegrumble uh colors... I ain't seen before... an' neither have you!" grin wink

Just be sure to go to the Martin tour first, before the Crayola tour; they might be leery of letting you touch any guitars with 64 Colors under your fingernails... !

Cool! My brother-in-law went there and got his D-18 from the Nazareth facility - decades ago.

I used to get woods from the Martin factory in Nazareth. There was a guy there I used to deal with named Dick Boak, he lived in an old church in Nazareth or nearby, and I think he was the sawmill manager. Did you see the sawmill out back of the factory? I finally sold those woods to a guitar builder in San Rafael California some years later, along with all of my guitar making tools and a ton of pickups and raw neck stock I got from Dan Electro guitars (or some other brand I can't recall at the moment).

nope, not gonna get it...they won't sell any of there stuff directly, ya gotta go thru a dealer...and i am not a guy that will buy a guitar that way. if i find one that's the ONE, that doesn't mean another guitar of the same series will work.

they didn't get that part, despite me trying to explain it.

i remember going with my brother easton to get a new strat back in the early 90's. we went thru 90 strats and the first one i said yes to was the one he got...but every single one played and sounded noticeably different.

i don't wanna ever buy a guitar unplayed...if i find one i like, i want THAT guitar, so no, i doubt i'll buy it. no two martins are the same, and that one was the only one of the 8 on the wall there i liked.

sad.

Very cool! We should meet up there for Nazfest this year. My favorite steel string (my HD-28) was born there.

I know what you mean. Still, couldn't there be a way that they'd work it out so that you bought- or at least paid for- a guitar, and THAT SAME SPECIFIC ONE was what you took home? Seems ther'd HAVE to be a way they could play ball with you, switching it with one with a dealer... ?

I have a friend who bought a beautiful, incredible Martin, a J-40, that has THE quintessential ideal Martin sound, and it plays sooo nicely... !! Ironically, if I recall correctly, he ordered it from an internet dealer... ! I tried three different $3k-plus Martins in a favorite cool little guitar shop, and as nice as they all were, none of them were nearly as great sounding as his J-40.
