Supernatural sound in both, but the FP-7F has PHIII and the 300NX has ivory feel G keyboard. Did I get this right? And which keyboard action is considered best? FP-7F has same keyboard as RD700NX

The FP7F/RD700NX action is better than the RD300NX; price should make that a fairly obvious distinction, no?

I always preferred the 300GX action to the "better" action of the 700GX/NX personally. I was able to articulate on it better. More expensive does not alway equal better in my book.

I did play the 300NX at NAMM and the keys felt similar to the 700NX action although they are supposedly different. The 700NX/GX feels slightly bouncy to me , but what do I know? I didn't design it and have never been inside one.

But for me , the 300 series in the last go round was actually "better". The 300 GX was a real sleeper in many ways. As far as I am concerned it had the best combination of acoustics and electrics that worked for me. I still love the basic warm Rhodes sound it has, which works better for me than the new 700NX "raspy" Rhodes.

The 300NX is also a real value in my book because it has most of the important Roland sounds for about 1000 dollars less than the 700NX. Plus it is a hell of a lot lighter.

I havent tried the FP-7F but I believe it has the more "expensive" action of the 700NX at a mid price point between the 300 and 700NX.

That FP7F still has that weird key dip, bottoming out feel for me.

I played the 300NX but in the din of Namm hard to say anything conclusive but for a lightweight gigging board it seemed pretty cool. I still thought the 700NX has the nicest action and sound of any Roland DP I've played.

Agreed - I'm scraping the money together to buy one right now.

It definitely feels and sounds a lot better than the FP-7F. I like the FP's built-in speakers (for home practice), but without the SuperNATURAL pianos & EPs and the NX's wonderful action, it's worth passing over and spending a few hundred more bucks.

300NX DOES have the SN piano.

Not as many sounds but some choice ones.

Jeez, all these DPs sound good on the video demos. What they all aren't telling us is the stuff is probably being run into a Prism Orpheus, ULN-8 or some other high end converter/preamp. You could get an old Korg M1 to sound good with the right electronics.

Fast forward to new owner plugging into his KC whatever amp, or at best Mackie/JBL MI speaker and then saying..."man what happened ?! It didn't sound like this on the demos". confused

Or even: "It didn't sound like this through my headphones", eh Dave? smile

Btw, judging from reports on the Piano World forum, it appears that Roland is still having issues with the ivory-feel keywear problem. Allan, how's your NX holding up so far?

The 300NX description says 'Hundreds of high quality built-in sounds'. Just wondering how many of these are actual piano sounds. LX88 mentioned that it has most of the important ones. I know it has the 'Concert Grand' but what are the others?

The RD 300NX has my two favorite RD700NX piano sounds which are Concert Grand and Mellow Grand.

It also has my two favorite 700NX EP sounds which are Tine EP( Rhodes)and Reed EP ( Wurlie). It also has some organ preset sounds from a VK8 type engine that are somewhat useful.

Before I knew that the 300 and 700 NX had differnt names for their keybeds I thought that they felt pretty similar when I played them at NAMM. I din't have a problem with the 300 NX keybed whatsoever.

It looked to me that the 300NX was worthy of serious consideration, particularly due to weight issues with the 700NX. But yeah, the real important sounds are there.

I don't spend a lot of time at PW. What is this issue? I've not had any problems with my 700GX, and until I got my piano, it was my go to board.

I bought my GX(now GX1) as soon as it came out, May 2008.

Not 1 problem with the ivory feel keyboard. IMO, Roland makes the best
( most natural) acoustic piano feel stage piano.
