Last September when I was in NYC I was having dinner with Tom Capasso and talking about some of the new things being done at the AFM. Tom told me that he thought I'd been pretty conservative since my involvement with the Lowdown in starting topics relating to the AFM and thought a couple of things brought up that night were very appropriate. One of these things, Venuology I started a topic about a week and a half ago that received quite a bit of interest and a number of posts. Somewhere in that thread I mentioned Friends of AFM but didn't say much. This is a place where those who don't consider themselves at the level or performing the kind of music work that could benefit being an AFM member but may have an interest to help those that do. I pointed out in the other thread that there are many non-professionals who take their instruments on planes when traveling such as going on vacation. The basic concept of Friends of AFM is for people in this category, or family and friends of musicians to participate as a voice in the legislative arena to reach out to their legislators showing their support to help the AFM and musicians advance these causes.
