My 30lb, 12 year old male cat has never had any affection for any of my musical instruments. He loves lisenting to Blues music, but has no interest in the instrments. Until..... I got my newest amp, a Fender Bassman with a Neo 12". It is a tilt back design and my cat now spends alot of time rubbing his face on the lower port opening when it is tilted back. Is there some type of radient flow of neutrons or something that is causing this? Surely some of our high-tech forum members will have an opinion. crazy

I doubt that "some type of radient flow of neutrons or something" has anything to do with it.

I think cats "mark their territory" by rubbing their faces against things to leave their scent behind. (Like a dog does by peeing on things.)

My wife's cat does this to almost everything that newly appears in our house.

I agree. It's new, it has weird scents on it and the cat is making it part of it's territory.

I think his problem is deeper than that. Maybe he needs a cat psychotherapist "cat shrink" , he also has a lot of other problems.
He tolerates me but loves my wife. He leaves the room when I pick up my bass. He likes female vocals but dislikes male vocals.
He stares at me like I'm the crazy one?

Meddle not in the affairs of cats, for the are subtle and will pee on your amplifier.

It's possible that he likes the way it smells for some reason, and is marking it as his own.

To your cat, you ARE the crazy one. He tolerates you but loves your wife - I bet she feeds him too. We have cats and it's the same way here. They ALLOW me to sit in my own chair and merely tolerate my presence while they love my wife. I don't feed them though and she does.
I believe he's marking your speaker as his territory. I hope you've had him fixed. grin

You should probably pee on it just to make sure he knows it's yours.

That's funny.

As a condition of us getting a cat my wife had to agree to handle all the feeding and cleaning the litter box. (She wanted a cat, and I gave in with that condition)

We got a kitten back in 2007, and the cat loves me. A lot. She tolerates my wife, but loves me to death. I'm always the one she curls up and lays on, and comes to when she wants to be pet. She even tends to sleep on or next to me at night.

It drives my wife nuts..

Female cats usually like guys and male cats usually like gals. They like everybody when they are hungry. We have a Feral cat that frequents our back yard. He does not like or trust anyone.

I have two very spoiled male cats, litter mates, and they've been with me for about 8 years. The only person they ever refused to cozy up to was my ex-wife.

Notice I am refraining from remarks about their general taste and training...
