Hey all, 1st time poster, and new to the community, and I need a little assistance. My Ampeg pr410hlf needed some speaker repair, so I removed the 2 victims (the 2 on the left) and I think I noted the wiring correctly, but now I am not so sure. I think it goes like this: (looking from the front)-back of cab-blue wire to top right speaker, top right speaker has blue wire to bottom right speaker and a white wire to same speaker that goes to the opposite pole. Bottom right speaker has a single blue wire leading from where the white wire attached to the bottom left speaker. Bottom left speaker has a white wire attached to the opposite pole from the blue wire that came from the right speaker, and this white wire comes from the back of the cab. That same pole has a blue wire that leads to the top left speaker.
Whew! So how'd I do? I think I didnt miss anything, but I am just trippin that the top left speaker only has one lead going to it. I have not altered the wiring at all, and am just looking to ensure success.
Thanks a bunch.

Whatever the correct wiring, I think it is critical that you get it right. Maybe a check at Ampeg site may show wiring schematics?

I'm not sure how Ampeg wires their 4x10 cabs, but I do know that each driver should have wires connected to both poles.

What kind of speakers do they use in that cab? More specifically, what's the impedance of each speaker? That makes the difference in how to wire it.

The person doing the repair said they are Eminence speakers, 4ohms each speaker. I feel as I have not done anything to have altered any of this wire arrangement, but it still looks odd...I appreciate your input.

Does this help?

4 - 4Ohm speakers and a 4Ohm tweeter highpassed. It'll give you a 4Ohm cab which is what it's supposed to be.

I appreciate the reply, but electronics is totally my weakest subject (I can make concrete do anything, and my mechanical skills are stellar!) and so I am still a bit confused. I will walk back over and check it out again and see if I am losing my mind.....so I guess the answer is no...

from the connection housing in the back of the cab..the red and black wires go only to the horn. the blue wire goes to the top right speaker, and the white wire goes to the bottom left speaker. the rest is how I described it above. sorry for being a thorn...

My guess is they have the highpass for the tweeter included in the connection housing. In that case, follow this diagram:

If there's only one jack instead of the normal two, just ignore the "out" one and the two leads going to it.

Also, it doesn't matter which speaker the wires go to first as long as they are wired together correctly. This is the only practical way to wire 4 - 4Ohm speakers so that it ends up being a 4Ohm cab.

I know this isn't any good now (sorry!) but one thing I find useful for this kind of thing is a digital camera.

Before I open up, say a cab, I take lots of pics and close ups of everything. I do the same with the wiring - as many as I need or more.

When you begin reassembly it's easy enough to look at the photos for guidance to see where it all went, either on a laptop or on the camera if the viewing screen is good enough. A high-end phone will do it too.

OK, now I hand back to someone else who can actually help you this time!

Cheers

Graham

Ok, the nice guy at Loud Technology drew me a sketch, so a concrete guy could understand it, so we are back to shaking floors. Nice.

Kudos for Tom at LT, and to you all with your input. Thanks.
