I recently upgraded my rig from an old GK head and (older) Hardtke 410 cab to an Ampeg SVT-4Pro and a SVT-410HE. This thing is like THUNDER! I LOVE it! I also have a 400 watt 115 cab sitting around (just in case).

The SVT4 Pro is bi-amped so I do have the ability to run the second cab from the other amp. OR, I can run the amp mono-bridged and "daisy chain" the cabs together. How does chaining the cabs effect the wattage and ohm load to the amp? Both of my cabs are 8 ohms. My concern is blowing my cabs if I run mono-bridged since this head throws 1600 watts that way! What do you guys (& ladies) recommend?

Thanks All! smile

Your options as I see it are to run:

* either cab full range with either 300W or 900W (single amp side or bridged, respectively)...either would be fine as long as you use your ears.
* both cabs at 300W each in either dual mono or biamped...again, either would be fine. I'd suggest full-range/lows rather than highs/lows (see the manual).
* both cabs "daisy chained" in bridged mono at 1200W...also fine.

You asked about the wattage split and impedance load running both in bridged mono: The amp would see it as a single 4 Ohm load. Each cab would end up getting 600W (this is all simplified because neither would be seeing that much wattage the vast majority of the time).

The question was based on more of a curiosity than a concern I guess. The manual that came with the amp gives a handfull of options for running 2 cabs (ie. 2 full range, 1 full & 1 low, 1 high & 1 low, & stereo)from both amps and using the crossover. However, it said nothing about chaining cabs together. I just wanted to know all of my options. And yes, pardon my error, the head is 1200 watts when bridged, not 1600 as noted in my original post! blush

Cool. If I were using that rig, I'd probably either run them daisy chained in bridged mono or biamp full-range/lows if I felt like messing with crossover points (and if the head has a decent crossover in it). The 410 is a sealed cab so it should have a nice natural LF roll off.
