Nope. Time for Roger and Pete to hang it up. They probably should have a few years ago.

Nope. Time for Roger and Pete to hang it up. They probably should have a few years ago. Really? I thought they sounded way better than I would have expected. Roger Daltrey can still pretty much sing. I took my kids to see Joe Cocker last summer. The music was great, but poor Joe is way past his prime. I thought they were going to have to administer oxygen onstage, although he did manage to hit his signature scream on "With a Little Help From My Friends," at which point all the Boomers stood up and cheered.

Willie Nelson is way past his prime but he still fills the house and most people enjoy it. As musicians/singers etc. we tend to be too critical at times and don't judge a performanace by the proper measure. Some are complaining that Pino did not sound like Enwistle, well, I don't think they hired him to sound like anyone but Pino. It's great to hear the "old guys" still giving it all they have. I enjoyed the half time show and I am not a fan of "Who". Rocky

Didn't think they would show the bass player and I was surprised to see it was him. I didn't know he played with the Who. Pino actually toured with the Who, taking over bass duties after John died several years back.

Actually, I thought they got better as it went on.
What was Pino playing? Looked like a P-bass, but with Thunderbird pickups.

I thought they sounded pretty good. I couldn't really hear Pino. Oh well.
I thought Roger was in good form, and still looks fit, healthy, etc. I thought Pete was solid, too. And ready to put on a show...windmills, attitude -- even if not doing the jumps he used to do.
Went to a performance of Terry Riley's In C at Carnegie Hall last year, so it was nice to get a live snippet from "Baba O'Riley" as part of the medley.
Peace. --SW

I think CBS just wanted the Who so they could have some extra promo time for their 12 CSI shows.

Of course CBS likes that they played all their CSI title music. The drummer got a lot of face time. I think The Who needs to hang it up.

I wasnt impressed by "the who" . This. Nope. Time for Roger and Pete to hang it up. They probably should have a few years ago. This too. Roger Daltrey can still pretty much sing. This is the problem. Also, why didn't somebody stand up and take Pete's mic away from him for the sake of the performance? What should they do? Retire and play golf? Yes. Like normal rich people. I thought Roger sounded like he's been smoking too much.

My only qualm with that is that everybody witnesses the decline of a great iconic band when they could've been left with only good memories.

My only qualm with that is that everybody witnesses the decline of a great iconic band when they could've been left with only good memories. Especially when the best part of the band, Moon and especially the Ox, are no longer with us. Actually I'm surprised Pete was as adequate, for lack of a better word, as he was. I read somewhere that he was practically deaf from years of earsplitting music. I wouldn't doubt that the monitor system wasn't as good as it should be either judging by the way Carrie Underwood did, and she's usually pretty strong vocally. He wasn't good but I liked his energy. At least the old cat was giving it what he had.

see the who dat thread. Pino has been playing with them since the day after Entwistle died. Just a minor point to spread the props around: I'm nearly certain the first guy to take over when the Ox died was the singer/bassist from Tears for Fears. I was living in Reno when the Ox died in Las Vegas and I recall reading that in the newspapers. I never would have thought that guy would be the one to take over, so how could I misremember such a thing, lol? Tears for Fears basslines do have a real nice feel to them tho. But he was there only temporarily - Pino has been with them for a while. I saw the Who in 2006 - I could barely hear Pino, just like with the Superbowl. I thought they sounded good, regardless of their age. They sounded better than 99.99% of all the rockers I've heard a third of their age. And Daltrey sounded REALLY good - he still sounds better than 99.9% of all rock singers to me. His voice has really held up well. I never plan to stop making music and I certainly hope the Who doesn't stop. Schmucky McGee working at the Holiday Inn for 40 years can stop, I guess, but the 'Orrible Who will be dead soon enough for those who are embarrassed by them - I say enjoy them while you can.

J, singing a capella with insane reverb and other background noise is very difficult. I wouldn't want to do it...but if I did I'd probably try it with earplugs in. It's much easier when you're playing an instrument and can get your intonation from there. I'm just not sure when singing the national anthem at a game went from "leading" to "performing." Back in the day (even with famous singers) the crowd sang along. I guess pop culture trumps patriotism.
