Hey, Grey'- I remembered your saying how much you had liked a particular three channeled Vox AC30 style amp, one that featured an EF86 in its design, wasn't it?

Anyways, I recalled that and thought of you when my good friend "Teahead" informed me that he had just bought this Cornell amp head and cab shown here on e-Bay, from the person who had won the e-Bay auction, but found out that it was too loud for his apartment (no, really? too loud for an apartment? grin ).

Scroll down on that 'page for a full description; sound like something you'd also like? This was a custom made one-off amplifier, effectively a prototype, but Cornell does currently offer the Legacy series in head and combo versions, a similar and perhaps further improved and refined AC30 inspired amp, with three channels and the capability to run four or two EL84s, or even just one...

Dude that looks like it could be a LOT of fun grin You should tell that guy to get an attenuator or something for that amp. Have you tried Cornell amps before?

Grey'- you remember the link I sent you, to Teahead's SoundClick 'page? Same guy, and many of the clips there were done with various Cornell amps. In time, I'm sure that he'll get some clips of this one on there, as well.

I thought that maybe a Cornell "Legacy" might suit you, enough to satisfy you in lieu of that other AC30-inspired amp that you loved but might not be able to find...

Now, he's had several attenuators, but he bought it from the guy who found it to be too loud for his situation, that's how he scored it; he's not the one with a problem with the amps loudness.

He's also got a Vox AC30TBX already- sportin' a pair of Celestion AlNiCo Blues- and this Cornell may well replace it once he's had a chance to really A/B 'em.

He may have Dennis Cornell upgrade it to his power tube reduction scheme (being able to select running 1, 2, or 4 EL84s), so an attenuator might not be necessary for him.

And he's already got an 18 watt Cornell "Plexi", and a tweedy Cornell "Romany Plus" that runs a single 6L6 output-tube at either 10 watts, 1.5, 0.3, or 0.05 watts (!) so he's covered for the relatively low-volume tube amp deal, not to mention a budding collection of Cornell amps- he seems to like them!

Wait so is he selling it? It sounds like this guy has a lot of high end amps haha. Dude if I had the money to spend on that I would take it in an instant. I ended up putting a down payment on a new 8 string that's being built by Martin Woodhouse. (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/martin.woodhouse1/8-string%20front.jpg)

Personally, if I bought one of those AC30s (real or cloned), I would probably put in some Scumback Greenbacks or something. I really dig the type of gruff-rock tone it gives. Right now, my amp's pretty versatile so I can get by, but I would like another cabinet, perhaps a 4x12.

What amps do you play on?

grin No, no, some other guy bought it by bidding highest on that e-Bay auction 'page, but then turned around and sold it- to my friend "Teahead"- when he discovered just how loud it was.

I just trotted this out as an example of an alternative to whatever AC30 styled amp that was that you liked but was apparently out of production until further notice; I remembered your asking for people to look out for you on that front. These Cornell amps seem mighty fine, first rate, judging by my friend's clips and written praise! (And Dennis Cornell's service and support to him on a USED amp was better than most companies do for customers who bought BRAND NEW amps!)

This Cornell head and cab that my friend scored had previously been a resident amp in some studio, custom ordered as a head and separate cab so that the guitarist could sit with the head (and easily adjust its knobs) in the control room, while the cab was being mic'ed in a remote room.
