Ouch! Sorry about your car and the bill...
Glad you've got some nice axes to woodshed on while it's being fixed!
Ibanez George Benson 100, Alverez Yari Classical electric, Fender fretless Jazz Bass- some particularly nice axes there!

Maybe your Strat could use a little set-up and lube? Perhaps a few new parts, maybe even some Graph-Tech parts?

Hello Bill,

...I watched and talked to Tommy Bolan at a demo for Boss effects about his guitar. Wow, when was that? Tommy is one of my all-time favorite guitarists. Shame he died that way. Forgive my ignorance here, Floyd Rose? A fixed bridge may be what I need. A Floyd Rose is a tremolo bridge with a locking nut and string locks at the bridge. The idea is that it eliminates the possibility of slack storage behind the nut or the bridge saddles. It works very well, but a lot of folks don't care for the tone they impart. Is that what you mean by a fixed bridge? Satriani uses Ibanez's version of a Floyd Rose bridge...

I'm of the opinion that a lot more productive, in-tune miles can be gotten out of stock- or partly stock- Strat trems, with proper set-up, some lubrication, and attention to playing 'em in a way that pulls slack back from behind the places where it catches. You don't always have to route out a Strat for a Floyd or Kahler or God knows what just to enjoy the trem!
Graph Tech (or other brands of slippery) composite saddles, nuts, and string-trees (the little retainers behind the nut) can help, and so can stabilizers (goes in like an extra trem-spring, in the middle, and provides a pre-set neutral position that's enforced by two-way springs) like the TremSetter from HipShot, and others.
