So ...

A month ago, I decided to buy an Epi T-Bird (not the Epi Pro T-Bird, but the $300 T-Bird - flame me, see if I care). It's the silverburst. Wanted something for band "B" that's doing a classic/album rock mix. This will be the designated "Drop D" axe for the more aggressive album rock (pics to follow soon).

For those of you not familiar with the T-Bird, be advised - it will NOT fit in a normal bass hardcase or gig bag. Or abnormal ones for that matter. That included the cases for the wierd-jazz cases for Deans and BC Richs (as stocked by the local music store).

So, they order one. For the same price as what's on Amazon. Still have to pay state tax, would rather give my money to music store guitar guy on commission than Amazon, so I tell them to order it.

That was three weeks ago. Epi has these things on back order for at least a month. Won't fit in the hard case I own and the head stock sticks (in a rather disturbing fashion) out of the top of the gig bag.

This goes along with some frustration in trying to get strings, strap locks, strap and other accessories out of the music store. Wrong orders, missed orders, shipping snafus or just plain forgot to hit "send". Anyone else noticing more than their fair share of mail-order misery?

I hear ya. I have Firebird, the guitar version of the T-bird and it won't fit in a standard guitar case either. Fortunately I have the case for it. Hopefully you can get the case for it.

It took a while for Epiphone to deliver the hardshell case for my Jack Casady bass. I think I went without that for a couple of months before the case was finally delivered for the instrument. There seems to be something of a pattern with Epiphone and delivery times on the cases.

OK, Sports Fans, Here it goes:

Like I said, got it to keep "Drop D" with classic/album band. The lead has a silverburst Epi Les Paul Custom, so we can get the whole ZZ Top matching axe thing going. Added a set of Hennessey strap locks to boot.

Thing is heavy as hell. I wasn't too sure about it, but took it to the classic rock band and the guitar liked the sound. Has a rather "piano" like percussive quality. Sustain is good. Seems well constructed. Not sure about the pups, need to play it a while and see how they sit. Was willing to rip the strings off right out of the box, but the band like the sound they way it sits.

They still prefer the '51 reissue ...

Despite the fact that I am more than bass fat, I can't help but peeking at the Cassidy in my music catalogue. And Christmas is just around the corner.

YA know, I've never been a big fan of the silver burst finish, but on that bass, it looks kinda good. Score, dude!

\m/ That thing screams 'rock'. Love it.

If we lived several hundred miles closer to each other I'd suggest we try putting it in the Incase gig bag. It looks like it might fit. The only bass of mine that doesn't is the JPJ and that's simple due to the enormously wide body. Length wise it's fine.

No gig-bag available? That would be a deal-breaker for me. I need a gig-bag. Hard cases do not do it for me.
