Hey folks-

Long time player, novice at sampling...

I need recommendations for a sampler, preferably rack mounted. I need to take a snippet of the popcorn-ish sound from the middle of Life's been good to me Joe Walsh/Eagles.

With my current rig (RD700SX/Electro2), I cannot reasonably duplicate this particular sound, so I'm forced to sample it.

So, what do you recommend that is simple to use? I'm not wanting to spend oodles of money since this is the only sound I'm really looking to reproduce.

Thank you in advance-

Rickkreuzer

Can't you replace it with something else more interesting, I carry around a roland sp-555 for single shot stuff......there are some smaller siblings like the SP-404 which probably could help you.

Sometimes I use my mobile for playing mp3s or an ipod in rehearsals, that is also an option. Even a simple cheap mp3player could help you.

You could very likely do a close enough sound on either one of your boards; try percussion-only (or perc + the 2' drawbar pulled slightly out) through the ring mod on the Nord... or do it on the RD using various effects to give it the resonance, and EQ to taste.

(the original part was done on either an ARP Odyssey or a 2500 using the S&H functionality through the resonant filter, according to a couple of sources on the 'net, but organ percussion with a high drawbar to give a good pitch reference, through the appropriate effects would be close enough for rock'n'roll, and would save you any outlay in cash, just some time spent programming... thu)

Rick!!! Haven't seen you here in a long time. Hope you're well.

It's funny--I was looking at gear on eBay the other night and came across an Emulator (EIII? EIV?) that was modestly priced. That or an Akai s3000...$400 or so. An Alesis QSR will also play back samples and is listed on Prepal at $273. That would be a great solution for just triggering a short part, and at 1u it's a small footprint. (I still have one, but I'm reluctant to part with it.)

I wouldn't recommend using an mp3 player for flying in a critically timed part. We've tried that with embarrassing results.

Or, you could try the Sven method. Might be cool enough.

Take care, and stay out of those nasty stores!! smile
