Hey,

I want to get a setup to record guitar and vocals at the same time (sing while I play guitar). I'm wondering what are the best options to achieve this.

For example for vocals: condenser or dynamic? For guitar: condenser or dynamic? If condenser then large or small diaphragm?

I already have a large diaphragm condenser and am looking at buying a second mic. Should I get a second large condenser? Or a small one? Which should I use on guitar and which one on vocals? Also how do you avoid one bleeding?

I currently have a studio projects C1 which I like both for my vocals and for guitar. I'm looking at adding a Rode M3 for guitar (or vocals depending on which sounds better).

What are some common setups and if you have specific gear suggestions let me know. I'm not looking for a pro studio, just something for myself (<300$ per mic). Also are preamps necessary? I currently run everything through a behringer mixer.

Sorry for all the questions but any light you can shine on this will greatly help me.

Thanks.

I've used type of setup you are talking about,(Large diaphram on vox, small diaphram on acoustic).Might I suggest a pair of mics capable of doing figure of 8 patterns.Placed tip to tip,in a Blumlein pair. One lobe of the figure of 8 pointing at the singers mouth, the other lobe pointed at the body of the guitar.
This gives superior off axis rejection, and avoids getting too much spill over, phasing ,and combfiltering.
