Thanks to all of you who gave advice for Mom and her new clonewheel purchase.
After playing Nords and Korgs and Rolands and old Oberheims and an XK-1 and an XK-3c, she decided on the XK-3c. I'm pretty sure the lower manual will be in the very near future. We also got the Hammond Expression pedal for it.
It arrived yesterday and I travelled up to her house to help her set it up and familiarize herself with it. Great rig - she's playing it through her Concorde and Leslie 710 (the Concorde has an external input jack). Have to be careful not to have the Leslie rotating (fast) when you're playing with the on-board Leslie sims, but other than that it sounds great.
Still need to find an 11-pin to 7-pin adaptor for her, so if someone has ideas about that, I'd love to hear them.
Also, we hooked up her Roland PK-5 pedals and finally stumbled on the right combination of settings for them to work with the pedal drawbars. I assigned Pedal Sustain to the User Button on the RH side next to the percussion, but does anyone know how to adjust pedal sustain? She likes a lot of sustain on the pedals, and if I could assign that to the "assignable" pedal knob on the far RH side of the organ that would be great for her.
(B3-er are you reading?) smile
Need to tone down the key click a little as well. She's not really one for the leaky, overdriven, dirty contact sound. I know there are preset tonewheel profiles in the setup, but need to just adjust a few parameters on the default one.

Anyhow, here's a pic of Mom with her Concorde and brandy-new XK-3. Cameraphone pic, so pardon the low res.

Congratulations.

You can assign pedal sustain as well as attack and release clicks to the controller knobs. See page 61 for all the parameters available. To get to the Assign Controller parameters press menu, button 3 and scroll up to the Assign Knobs page.

Good Luck.

On my XK-3 if you use the 11-pin Leslie connector it bypasses the onboard Leslie sim.

I don't think so: she's a better player, knows more about Hammonds, is smarter, AND better looking than me. I can't have her making me look THAT bad!

Yes, but we're currently just going from the Audio Out into the Concorde. We know that once she actually hooks up to the Leslie it will cut out the Leslie sim.
Need to find an 11-pin to 7-pin adaptor. Why are they so freaking expensive? I saw one for $200+. Isn't it a simple pin-out or are there step-up/down circuits/inverters, etc.?

Yes, the adapters are expensive.

If you know a good electronics person you could have one made. They are pretty simple if you're not going to one of the old 6pin tube model Leslies.

Sorry - my mistake: going 11 pin to 9 pin.
$438 for an adaptor? I think I'll either head to Radio Shack for parts or we'll be happy with the Leslie Sim.

6/7/9 pin systems have AC power carried over the cable. Due to UL requirements 11 pin cables cannot carry AC power. Adapters are expensive because they need the power supply and relays to convert 11 pin to older system.

I was looking at the schematics for one on a site mentioned earlier in the thread and it seems there is more to these than just cabling.
My Mom has a Hammond guy who just did a tune-up on her Concorde and Leslie. We'll see if he has anything for this and, if not, re-assess at that time.

I would also try ebay and maybe even this guy :

http://www.tonewheel.com/

or

http://www.lesliespeaker.com/

I think this is what you might want :

That one is the opposite - 9 pin organ to 11 pin Leslie.

This might be the one:
http://bborgan.com/1197-connector-kit.html

but the 710 is multi channel I believe.

We'd love to here from Mom! That would be so cool--one who's played organ, etc., for so many years, and now is dealing with a clonewheel. That would be a refreshing perspective. (Sometimes we get so absorbed in techno-speak.)
