Of course the film was after the fact but still, nice...& catch the differences from the single near the end.

Another difference...my keyboard player has a copy of the master tracks from the original and he told me that there's no actual bass or guitar. It's all keys. I can't attest to the validity of the statement because I haven't heard them, but I tend to trust this guy's knowledge of music trivia.

Cool video, though. Thanks.

Well, I don't recall anything besides the keys, drums (SW, himself, I thought), horns & vocals...but maybe that's just bad memory...
Clearly SW got some cats to play the song sometime!

Here's reference for the original
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OJsYwLs7yE

BTW, Davio, how'd your pal get these tapes ?

No doubt! I've never heard a version (by SW) live or studio that wasn't kickin'. IIRC, SW played those squeaky drums and keys and there were several horns (at least trumpet and sax of some kind).

Nice SS shoutout about 2:00...good timing for SS's 30th this week.

Man...gained a bit of momentum throughout the song, huh?

I like the Sesame Street bass line with that octave thing on the and of one. I've been playing that song for many years and need something to freshen it up for me and the band.

Someone on the internets posted the master tapes from Superstition a few years ago (and then took them down).

There were four keyboard tracks....one was bass and the other three clavinet and they were scary awesome. Way more was going on in that song than it seems like on the surface.

Yeah, I guess that's where my keyboard player got them.

I dunno, I just listened to the recording and the bass sounds a little too greasy to be a keyboard, even with a pitch wheel.

See J's post above. SW never did anything that wasn't greasy no matter what instrument it was on.

Well, there is that. If it is a keyboard it's pretty remarkable!

I have been working on the Marvin Gaye song, "Got to Give It Up" and the bass part is a synth bass played by Marvin himself. It's a very slippery part.

He also played keyboard on the track and the cowbell part which was a half full bottle of grapefruit juice.

Back to Steveland Morris.

I have that. It's bad ass. I was given the raw tracks for this song as well as a bunch of other songs. It's pretty cool to solo up all the individual tracks. I've also got some Marvin and some Queen... and some Rush.
