I too have boxes filled with many. many old and new issues of Keyboard. Will we ever see a time when a DVD set of all the issues, say to the end of the year might be available in PDF format? Has this been asked before?

Thanks

katt

Are you going to scan the old ones?

Hi Joe. No, I can't scan anything, no scanner. Some of the older KB mags are in storage and moisture got to them and mold/mildew.

Some publications do archive their magazines on DVD and I wanted to find out if the Keyboard staff might offer that option in the future. Do you know if anyone has thought about that issue>

Thanks katt

In all seriousness, I hope so. However, it seems they've never had the resources to even keep the older material online. In previous years when they've redesigned the site, all the old content went with the old design.

I would be happy with a master searchable index. I want to be able to type in "Bruce Hornsby" or "Roland RD-700" and find all the issues with those references, hopefully grouped by category of article. Then I could dig through my old issues and find the product review for the item I'm thinking of buying at the consignment shop or find that quote someone said in their interview.

That would be pretty cool. I'd love to see them even from the very beginning, back in the 70's. They had great articles then... Chick Corea, Tom Coster, etc... plus all the old gear reviews are awesome for us vintage junkies...

Sound On Sound does a DVD that I think comes on sale a year or two after the magazines, which I thik is a great idea. I'd love to have the entire shelf of old magazines on my shelf replaces with 30 DVDs or something...

Man I agree with these sentiments. There have been times when I think to myself about a certain article or a certain masterclass or a certain review or a certain interview and go, 'what freaking issue was THAT in?' and it could be in any issue within a 4 year period. I bet they just don't have the time for such a thing as it's a huge undertaking. What if we volunteered $10 or $15 each towards such a project?

Hi everyone,

This is our dream as well, and resources, man-hours, etc., are indeed the biggest challenge. I personally think it would be one of the most sellable things we've ever done.

There's talk of having it be online as well. I think for a searchable PDF / multimedia database, the way it'd have to work would be for us to find someone who's willing to take on all the heavy lifting: scanning, tagging, indexing, sharpening pictures, making everything compatible with today's digital world, who the company could cut a deal with for a percentage of the proceeds.

That something like this could exist as a paid website, flash app with an online connection, iPhone app, or anything where rotating ads from current advertisers could be served is what would make our management and ad sales team drool--and also what could make a project of this magnitude profitable, which it would have to be if the folks in our company who have power of the purse are to go for it.

This is very common for many scientific and medical journals. I've seen journal archives all the way back to the 50's.
