Does anyone have a good online place to get posters made to promote gigs?

I want to get a bunch made to post in venues for upcoming gigs, etc. Something bigger than just printing out on 8 ½ X 11 paper. oh yeah.... affordable too....

Have you tried Kinko's? You can get standard notebook side, legal size and much larger (18x24"). It's not cheap, but if you only need a few for the bars themselves, you can get four or five big posters for about $20.

Online design tool and then printed.

I don't know of any online design tools that would be worth a second look. Can you find somebody with software and a knack for design? I've usually been able to find a friend or family member somewhere who was willing to help...but now I have all the software I would need to do my own work.

I don't think online printing is practical unless you're getting huge batches done.

How big a poster you need? For whipping up quick flyers and stuff I just use publishing software like Broderbund's Printshop Deluxe. Or if I want to be a bit more artistic maybe some drawing or painting software and pull out a drawing tablet. Or go the old fashioned route and get out the pencils and brushes. Then as our Erik mentioned I'll trot on down to the local Kinkos. Otherwise hire an artist and have them whip up something.

I am thinking of investing in some software. Would be fun anyway....

You really don't have to invest in any additional software for a simple poster, you can probably design exactly what you need with the software you have now.

Poorly designed posters or fliers are worse than no poster or fliers.

I kinda miss the old days when my band would spend a few hours literally cutting and pasting images and text from newspapers and magazines to make show posters... we'd copy them at an all-night Kinko's at around midnight and then walk around pasting them to every available surface with wallpaper glue in a bucket. We'd put up 1000 posters in a 10-block radius. It didn't always get a big response in attendance, but people in town knew our name. That was about 17 years ago. Some of those gig posters are still hanging on walls in weird alleys around town. God only knows why we put posters in those alleys.

Yes! Our drummer made some that looked like a little kid made them.... I think I hurt his feelings.... they did not get hung.

Keep it simple.

The easiest way to do it is with Adobe Photoshop or something similar that can handle layers and blending effects. GIMP is free.

Or, hire someone like zeronyne to do the work.

PS: I'm not the son of a preacher man, but rather the son of a designer. I've seen the difference a quality graphic can make.

Definitely keep it local if you're not needing hundreds of posters printed. Kinko's or a local sign shop, I'd say. Also, try using GIMP to design. It's free-ware, and it has many comparable options to several pricey design tools.

I have seen horrendous crap that you can't even begin to read out there.

Keep it as simple as possible.
Who - where - when - phone number of the venue - one pic. Arrange to taste.

I would recommend CorelDraw - even an earlier version.
