Hi & Hello,

I've been playing bass for 10 years but have so far only used cheaper basses. My current bass is a Washburn Bantam 2500, 5 string and active electronics. I've been quite impressed with it over the years.
I'm now wishing to buy a more expensive bass. I've been thinking about the Warwick Corvette STD 5 string in Ash, with active electronics and pickups, together with the Dynamic Correction passive pickups.
I recently came across the Yamaha RBXJM2 and at a low price of £850 in a local store. I'm really into Jazz / Pop & rock, though I've come away from the Prog.Rock scene. I would still like to own the Yamaha Bass.

Can anyone help me choose which bass? Also, if you have your own recommendation for a new bass for me, please let me know smile

Try out all the basses within your price range, including the ones you don't find "pretty". Make (mental) notes and if needed, repeat a second time. Then decide which one suits your needs best and feels greatest in your hands.

When I bought my Fender Jazz, I also tried out several MusicMan basses because everyone always raves about them. I found that I really do not like how they feel in my hands, nor how they sounded. The clerk handed me the Jazz and it was love at first touch grin

Ha det bra ! Jeg skulle gjerne til Norge en dag ...

I can't really choose for you as you are the one that will be playing it. Both basses are really nice. I suggest spending lots of time trying out both and see which sounds and plays best to you. Then again if you can afford it get both. You can never have enough basses. wink

In the end, I think I'm gonna go with the Warwick Corvette, but in the Bubinga and active all the way through, instead of the Ash and passive/active configuration.

Just after Xmas I went to London in search of a (second-hand) top end 6 string. I tried everthing at Bass Gallery (great place, great people!), none of the basses I 'wanted' to buy felt right, so I came home with a (relatively) cheap Ibanez.
It just suited my style of playing!
Try everything, if it feels right dont forget that pick-ups/electronics can be changed.
Then again, I love my Warwick smile Mmmm, try everthing BEFORE youi try the Warwick!

Warwicks are a bit marmite-like, you love em or hate em. Actually that's crap. I played a really old Warwick that i loved. The latest crop just don't feel right to me. Tried a 6-string thumb that was unplayable to me.

Yeah don't make your decision because of what we say. Try everything. Are you from Oslo or Stavanger? What bass manufacturers are there?

I'm closer to Oslo. The thing is, in Norway you pay about 25% extra than what you would pay in the Uk. I DETEST that. I would pay for an Ash, but in the UK I could get it Active and in Bubinga, with a Hiscox Hard Case toboot, plus a free pack of strings! My only problem is that I'm worried about the flight home, and the problem with Warranties if something breaks in the first 12 months.

I have recently seen a Warwick Corvette Proline 6 with the following specs:-

--------------

Warwick Corvette Proline 6

1998 Model
Preamp changed with a Streamer Preamp.
What looks like 2 BassLines Humbucker Pickups

I can give a link to the add, but it's Norwegian. There are some nice pics though.

------------

How does that look?
