Better late than never.

Around 1998, I wrote this little etude on piano. Has a very lively, Rachmaninoff feel to it.

So couple years ago, I'm working with a now defunct prog project, and I wind up re-arranging it for two guitars, bass, and drums, and wouldn't you know, it sounds like heavy metal meets surf rock. I never got a version recorded with that band, but I did get one recorded on my own recently. It's not the cleanest take I ever executed, but the fingering on some of this stuff was damned tricky! grin

I just thought it was interesting how drastically it evolved in the process of re-arranging it.

There is a part almost towards the end that sounds like you're ending the song...then a two guitar riff that sounds like Hotel California comes in...the song takes off again and then the ending comes in...the pre ending sounds a bit shakey and needs a little more work...the two guitar riff sounds great and needs to be used more in the song (even if it's just one guitar doing it)...the last ending sounds good...IMHO...good work...liked the piano version as well but skipped most of it as I wanted to hear the guitar version and you did capture some Ventures surf vibe...

Very well put together Griffinator, I especially liked the ryhthm guitar tracks, they really growled.

Like you, I will rehash bits and pieces of stuff I came up with years ago when my style was different and couldn't really find a use for back then. Sometimes it just takes time for a good idea to germinate.

Cool; I have often set an idea aside, and later on I stumble upon something else that strikes me as being just the thing to work into the older piece, and it continues to develop, and so on...
