Hi everyone,

First off, this forum and the acoustics FAQ have totally changed the way I think about sound, and so much for the better. Really, really grateful to you all.

I'm setting up my little home studio (mixing and MIDI production), and am ready to install some bass traps. I was planning on going with these kits, and I was going to install them diagonally in my problem corners.

My question is, do they need to be somehow sealed to the wall, or can they simply be placed there with something securing them so they don't fall over? This is for diagonal installation. The same company sells a special brace for corner installation, but it's extra dough I'd rather not spend if I don't have to.

Also, what is the advantage to using sheets of 703 or 705 vs something like the Auralex Lenrd?

I'm including a diagram of my room in case anyone wants to see. The layout has changed slightly since creation, in that the desk has been moved out form the wall to accommodate the 38% rule, and there is a sub between the speakers against the wall. It's small and cluttered, but I'm determined to make the best of it!

I can't comment on that company or its products. If you plan to buy from them, you should be asking them for advice. But I can tell you that sealing fiberglass type traps tightly into a corner is not necessary.

Wow,$152.00 for four traps. You can buy the rock wool for three traps for $45.00.Thats nine 4 inch traps for $135.00.Buy some cheap fabric, get a freind to stich together some bags, and you`re set.
You were worried about a tight budget in your monitor vs treatment thread, now you are throwing away cash. You must have gotten some good work for the studio.

Honestly, I just really have no idea what I'm doing. I am on a tight budget, but I'm also baffled by both the lack of direct information and the options for sound treatment. That's why I'm looking for answers with you guys.. I found a local dealer for 703 2", so I can get enough at a good price to make some first-time bass traps, but I'm going to continue to be full of questions until I get stuff set up. I will try to read more and ask less, I guess.

Fibreglass is the most expensive option, but with a room your size, the difference between rock/mineral wool, and fibreglass will only be about $100.00 or so ,depending on how flat you want the room to end up.You will get a little more ridgidity from fibreglass. The end result with bass trapping and absorption will be the same, but due to a little sagging and flex from the mineral/rock wool product(Basalt)you may see some asthetic difference when using a simple bag type of suspention and mounting. The more ridgid fibreglass product will hold it's shape in the bag a little better,if you're worried about that.
