WOW! That's terrible, and so unusual! I feel sorry for her family and friends.

I feel so sad for her family and friends. Another young, up and coming artist taken too soon.

What an horrible way to go, as food for animals!

Now the next thing we'll hear is that PETA's suing the mounties for shooting the one coyote and scaring off the second before they could finish their meal. Crazy world... rolleyes

Man that's crazy, growing up in Nevada all the Coyote's were as timid is could be. Sounds like she was an up and coming talent on the Folk scene too and 19 is way too young to die...

our local paper had a recent story about a couple in the Cole Harbour area ( around HFX N.S.) being approached by a aggressive Coyote.

Swear to ya this is true- a few years ago, staying with friends when work was being done on the house, I had our dog (a large Siberian Husky/Chinese Chow mix with a German Shepard/Wolf mix ancestor on one side) in their back yard, on a long chain...

A lot of Coyotes were milling about the area one night, calling to one another and apparently grouping up; I was sitting in a chair near an opened screened doorway to the back deck. Some Coyotes that were nearby exchanged "greetings" with our dog, who made it pretty clear that he would NOT back down. It sounded like one of the coyotes in particular was getting very close, to the point that our dog was facing something in the dark of the field nearby, as I could hear rapid movement through the brush.

I jumped up and ran out the back door with the intention of bringing the dog in before any trouble happened, when suddenly the noise in the brush stopped abruptly, followed by a sharp "yelp!" and a terrible, familiar smell... then more yelping and whining in the dark, growing more and more distant again, and such other sounds giving the distinct impression of one Coyote being given the brush-off by others...

The aggressive, challenging Coyote had apparently run head-long into a skunk in the dark! freak grin

Caevan,

Any one keeping their dogs outside with coyotes around had better be careful as coyotes can easily take on & quickly kill dogs. I remember about some guy in the south west US released his doberman on a coyate in his yard only to see it dead a few seconds later, wild animals have it tough every single day, the ones that survive to adulthood have already been through & done a lot.

Back on topic, my sympathies for the young woman very sad indeed.

Oh, I know! (Thanks for looking out for my and others' best interests, though!) Hence my running out to get him when it sounded like things might escalate past what they usually amount to around here- usually, hearing them but not seeing them is par for the course with coyotes here, even just hearing them is not an everyday (night) occurrence in these parts. In fact, it wasn't that long ago, that there had been decades and decades when you wouldn't even hear them at all, there just weren't any coyotes around here.

I certainly would NEVER intentionally encourage a fight between a dog and any other animal, wild or domesticated!

I may have been spared any confrontation there by that coyote running into that skunk, too- what great luck for me, and bad luck for the coyote!

Wild animals should not be underestimated!
