Hey all, I'm going to be in Chicago next Tuesday for da biz - I know Mr. L and I are planning on dinner and stuff - anyone going to be in town / interested? Mike? Tony? Bueller?

Is it retardedly cold up there yet? We have 12" of snow at my house in Denver, and it's still coming down...

Nope, not cold. It's been 50-60 degrees recently with a lot of rain and gray days. I expect the same next week, but then again, it's Chicago.

Sorry, can't make Tues. Hope you have a good time and can get out of Denver.

Man, if I wasn't flying internationally Monday, I'd make the drive. Sounds like a fun time

My wife and family are from ABQ. That's not Mexican, that's Southwestern, a totally different cuisine! Just to prove I'm not ig'nant, I LOVE Sadies...although I preferred Sadies when they were still in the bowling alley!

There are some great Mexican joints in Chicago, and I can take you to 3 or 4 of them that will blow you away and not tax your wallet.

Around here, not too many people know the difference between Mexican and Southwestern cuisines. Nor do they know what the question, "red or green?" means. smile

Sadies was definitely better in the bowling alley. Did you ever eat a full Travis burrito at Grandma's K&I Diner?

Green all the way! Never had a Travis. Whenever we venture back, it takes all my strength to convince my wife to go anywhere besides Lottaburger.

It's hard for me to pass up all the amazing Italian, Greek and (my fave) Armenian food available in Chicago, but if "South of the Border" is a must, Frontera Grill can be fun.

My tour of Mexican restruants is considerably lower rent than Frontera Grill...and you can always get in! I recomend first and foremost LaPasadita on Ashland just south of Division. There are three of them on that street, 2 on the west side next to each other. You must go in the southernmost restaurant as they are the only ones with the black pepper salsa.

For Greek, hit the Parthenon on Halsted Street. Best saganaki (i.e., flaming cheese; they claim to have invented it), gyros (unbelievable home-made recipe), and Roditis wine (they have this excellent, unlabeled/bootleg variety), served in a loud, wide-open atmosphere. My wife and I go there all the time.

Chicago has the best. food. period.

The place I never skip is
Sayat Nova on Ohio St.
BTW: This recommendation is not entirely OT, since this restaurant is owned by Michael Omartian's uncle smile
