Hey all,

Desperately hoping for some advice here before I make any more rash choices. After reading through the excellent Acoustics FAQ (thank you so much, Ethan!), I feel like it may be better to treat my room and return a new pair of monitors than hang on to them.

I recently purchased a pair of Dynaudio BM6as to replace my Event PS6s. I've had them for about 7 days now, and they do sound great, as far as I can tell, but I know my room needs treatment, and I can't really afford it with these monitors on my books. Plus now I feel like I can't trust what's coming out of the Dynaudios regardless of how good they are because of the room.

Is it better to stick with the Events and properly treat the room, or use a superior monitor and have a messy room? I'm leaning towards the former, but I need advice. I'll have to make a choice soon, probably by the end of this week.

That's the short version. There's a few more complications, but the real core of the problem is there. What do you all think?

stick with events and treat your room! all the way....
My studio is well treated and my monitor is yamaha hs50m with a sub. mix transfer very well. But it is sure some adjustment is needed as i listen to many room. That is normal. The result of treated vs untreated is very audible, it is not a placebo effect. It is a science.

Thanks for the advice! Though, based on some other advice and some work I did on the walls with what I had at hand, I'm keeping the BM6as. Just some blankets on the wall (I know, ghetto) has made the room sound warmer and more accurate. I'm going to spring for some bass traps when I can, and I think that will be enough for now.

I'm not sure how large your room is,but if it's a bedroom, you should be able to enough mineral wool and fabric for covers for under $200.00,and do it yer self.So flog off the events to someone, and use the cash to treat the room properly.

I'm working to do both. Sold some non-essential stuff and found a local owens corning dealer. Will make some bags from cheap fabric and enjoy the results!
