Does anybody know what strings ship on the PRS SE Custom? I know it's a 10-46 set, but any thoughts on what brand they send out?
Thanks,
Scott Fraser

Don't know who actually makes those, though, or where (other than within the US)...

Perhaps made for PRS, to there specs, by D'Addario?

Don't trust the package! smile

I'm local to a major string maker. Heard the story from a friend going into this shop, that about 50% of THEIR strings were going into other packages than their "home" label.

Got to visit the shop one day and sure enough, boxes and boxes of string packing from other "manufacturers".

Just like my 4 wheeler...the company says use their gear and synthetic oil. Yeah, like they have a company making this stuff?

Just a way to mark-up prices.

Oh, yeah, I don't think that PRS makes 'em, but they very well may have their own specific specs for the core wire, wrap wire, and the gauges of both of those, that could very well be different from those usually used by the actual string-manufacturer contracted to PRS (probably one of the "big ones"). That's apparently what some of the folks on the PRS forums are thinking.

I was under the impression that the PRS SE's come with the 9 set/
I know when I put 10's on mine- I had to widen the nut a bit, the strings were binding.

I believe that varies with the model; some PRS axes come with 9s, some with 10s, some with 11s, some maybe even with 12s...

In the FAQ on the PRS site it says:
"We set-up the guitars at our factory with the following string gauges:
Most solidbody instruments are factory set-up with 10 - 46 gauge strings.
The DGT is factory set up with 11 - 49 gauge strings with unwound 3rd.
The non-piezo Hollowbody models are factory set-up with 10 - 46 gauge strings.
The piezo equipped Hollowbody models are factory set up with 11 - 49 gauge strings with a wound 3rd."

Yet in the accessory shop the 10-46 gauge set is mentioned as shipping on the hollow body PRS, with no mention of the SE's. A bit confusing, & also, since the SE series is an import, it quite possibly has a different string supplier as well, although you'd think they'd want to promote their own brand as much as possible. Don't know, but I really like the set that came on the SE & I want more.

Try those PRS nickel-wound 10-46, then, and see/hear if they're the same...
