Hi all,

Well after reading in depth on acoustic treatment I have finally devised my approach for my project studio. Just wanted to post this in the hope than any of you experts might spot any glaring issues.

Firstly studio dimensions width 2m length 4m height 4m I've been told that i should lower ceiling as there is ringing present. I was going to lower to around the 9 feet mark this is going to be done with a 3x2 inch cross piece suspeneded with joist hangers then I was going to make some large custom made tiles to fit into the spaces. I'm making the tiles from foil backed/fronted celotex (a light wieght rigid foam insulation.

I'm intending to cover these with somekind of burlap but not sure if I should put some kind of wadding over them first? then i'm intending to use as many bass traps and acoustic foam as possible. I'm hoping also that the large custom tiles will act as broadband absorbers but as the celotex is only 25mm thick I'm not sure how good they will be at this. Any expert advice would be greatly appreciated.

Greg

P.S. studio construction is built from stud and plasterboard and insulated with regular fibreglass insulation the door is a solid fire door with no gaps. G

Yeah, 2:4:4 is not a good ratio. Lowering the ceiling with tiles does not change the basic dimensions. You need as much bass trapping as possible. Thin tiles are not useful as bass traps, but they can work well as the finished surface you see. Then lay 12-inch thick fluffy fiberglass on top of the tiles and that will be good.
