I got started on CryBaby pedals back in the 70's, so that is my benchmark. Most of the ones I've heard, including the Dunlop CryBabys, don't sound like the old ones did, but the Vox V847 does. I like those best these days.

I definitely agree with ya there!

I don't know if I've tried the same model of Vox wah as you, but I have preferred the late-model Vox wahs that I've tried, over Dunlop Crybabies. They're just clearer, more transparent, and more vocal sounding, and better suit clean tones than the Dunlop Crybabies.

OK, here's a question....
Has anyone here played the old Morley "oilcan" wahs?

I've heard they are the cat's pajamas.

Now, they're a rare find; and I understand that when the "oil" is low, it could be hard, if not nearly impossible, to replace it with the correct goo...

Not a wah, but equally arcane and Rube Goldberg-esque, Gabriel E. scored one of those '60s Fender "oil-can" 'Echo - Reverb' units a while back; I lust for one...

Not a Wah fan, but have played around with using them to alter or get new sounds left at one setting, not using it as a wah...don't care for auto wah either...but, have to admit some guys can get some really great sounds with them (ie. Los Lonely Boys, etc smile

I didn't know Morley made an oil can wah. I knew they made an oil can echo, and an oil can rotary speaker gadget, but I didn't know there was a wah in that series. I did have a Morley Attack control pedal for a while. It had an electric pick! When this metal pick that had a single wire lead running down the length of the ten foot cable that came with it, the volume dropped out, then came back up at a rate determined by where the pedal was set down for fast, up for slow. They had a wah pedal with the electric pick setup that worked the same way, only with wah instead of volume.

You may be right, picker, maybe I'm mixed up on just how many Morley "oil-can" contraptions there were; they're the stuff of rumor and vague legend for many of us!

Whatcha got on the oil-can wah, Erik? We wants to knowzitt!

I don't know much about them, honestly. From what I understand, not many of the oil-can wahs were made, but they're supposedly kick-ass. Only one person I know has one, and he lives on the West Coast... but he's recorded with it, and it is truly a lovely wah. Having said this much, the wah may not actually have the oil cannister thing in it--he might just think it has one of those because it's an old-ass Morley wah... which is why I asked you fellers about this.

Meanwhile, I'm anxiously waiting to see which pedal my wife ordered for me... It should arrive on Friday, I think. It's either a Teese Wizard Wah or a Clyde.... or possibly something she had commissioned for me.

I don't have any history with the Clyde Deluxe Wah, But I do own and Run a Clyde Wah. It is simply the best wah I have used and it doesn't suck tone.

She does have a sister, but I don't think she's that lonely.

My wife ordered this for me:

I don't know much about it yet, but I do know it's one-of-a-kind and handmade. It should be here soon.

Now you just have to wait until I get it to see. Nyah.

The dude hosting the pic apparently deleted the image because he doesn't want anyone else to think it's still for sale.

I've got a GCB-95 (late 80's early 90"s? I don't know)

I did run the true bypass mod and also pulled the buffer stage out and it's been reliable, smoother than before that's for certain and it's a wah-wah pedal. I don't think Tone gets mentioned in the same sentience.

I always thought these pedals represented a demonically variable bastardization of the elusive quality called Tone... Somewhere in that sweep it does sound great but to either side there's shit happening that's not altogether complementary.. and it varies so significantly from guitar to guitar.

........ a hush falls over the crowd.... WTF.

Proper spot in the chain, +EQ to compensate for the nature of the guitar (keeping the bottom end from turning to pure mud) = all good.

I can see what you're saying in asking the question. I just don't see anything working perfectly without a variety of compensation built in.

I haven't heard it yet, but I like the way it looks.

But how do you get Martian clowns to agree to be violently murdered for the sake of a wah-wah pedal?
