So recently I've been getting into home recording and right now my setup looks like this:

-2 Shure SM81s Overhead.
-1 Shure SM57 on the snare.
-1 Shure Beta 52 down on the kick.

I can record to either Cubase or Garage Band, and I have a Lexicon I.Onix FW810s firewire interface (or a Presonus Firebox on loan from a friend.) The problem I had was this:

When in either Garageband or Cubase, my microphones were talking to my interface, but the individual channels in the software were not picking up the sound from the mics, but rather from the built in microphone in my Mac. So I did some tinkering and changed the sound input in my computer's sound card settings from the built in mic to the Lexicon interface, as well as changed some of the VST Settings in Cubase, but still nothing. So I downloaded the newest drivers for the Lexicon, and now the interface isn't even showing that it is getting sound. My input levels stay at 0. Any insight as to how to arrange my settings to make my investment go?

Thanks,
M.thenell

If I recall correctly, when setting up the audio I/O for your DAW, you don't need to change the sound input & output for the computer, but rather in the DAW itself. Like in Garageband, go to the preferences and change the devices there. It is similar in Cubase. As far as the update & now no sound...I dunno what to tell you there. Try the whole reboot, unplug, plug back in etc?

But change the I/O in the DAW, not in you Mac setup & see if that works.
