'Morning,

I recently bought the Boss CS-3 and have been fooling around a lot with the settings. Can't seem to settle on any that I feel really improve the sound quality. I play Peavey basses (4 & 5 str) through a Hartke 5500. Effects chain: tuner, CS-3, SansAmp, noise suppressor, flanger, chorus. Music played, mostly rock (Tragically hip genre), sometimes metal (Megadeth, Metallica).

Any good settings suggestions ?

Unfortunately, I could never make that pedal work for me. I use a BBE Opto Stomp for my compressor. I guess my only advice is don't over-do it...unless that's the effect you are going for.

i typically only compress when i'm using an overdrive tone and want an even response from early in the gain stage. compressing live is a fruitless pursuit for me.

I'd put the compressor last in the chain to even out the volume and avoid peaks. You've got plenty of stuff going there which will affect your tone. Just use the compressor to keep the level even.
