This is it! After many years I've decided to part with my 1972 1973 vintage Fender Jazz Bass. It's served me well, but it's gotten so that I'm hesitant about taking it out on gigs. I'd rather have an instrument I feel totally comfortable gigging with, but if there's someone out there that can provide my black beauty with a good home, I'd be inclined to part with this bass. I'm going to forego advertising a price on the forum. I'd rather talk about that in PM's.

About the bass? It's been a gigging/recording machine with the previous owner(s) and myself. I am obviously not the original owner as the bass is as old as I am.

Tonally, it's got that classic growl. And the neck is super thin. The serial number puts it around 1972 1973, and the 4 bolt neck joint supports that. But instead of going on and on, I'll let some of the pictures do the talking:

Edit Reason: Nick's request for more precise dating of 1973 rather than 1972.

I played one just like this the other day in a music store, it sounded great through a Mesa Boogie rig. I don't know why the CBS-era basses get a bad rap from some folks, the three or so I've played were all very nice. This looks like a good example.

Good luck with your sale. smile

Seriously, wish I could help but good luck with the sale. I've been jonesing for legit jazz with some mojo lately. Just wish I had a means of funding it.

Looks like the one I saw Baron Browne playing last week (with Vital Information). He sounded great.

Here are some better pics of the bass, with the stock pickguard. Also, I'd like to revise the dating and thread title, as the SN places it closer to 1973.

Asking $2900.
