Hello, I just recently started up a commercial studio. We have a couple engineers, and a lot of experience between all of us. But one thing we have not yet recorded is a upright slap bass. We will be recording a rock a billy band, and they have an upright bass with a pickup and an amp... Any suggestions? We have a couple condensers, akg D112, sm57, seinhiser E609. We also have a Tube dI. Thanks

I use small diaphragm condenser on a boom stand up high around the neck, and a large diaphragm condenser on a low stand, about 18 inches or so out from the instrument, about a foot to 18 inches off the floor, to get a standup bass. But likely any rockabilly band will want the sound of the amp recorded, too, and that I'd handle like any other bass amp.

One mic, a SDC (my preference is an AT 4041) centered on the right hand. Don't complicate with multiple mics in close proximity.
