Being that I don't have pictures, I did not get a new bass yesterday. I did not grab a mint Squier VM Jazz for a buck and change.
I swear, I didn't.

Totally not excellent ! I think ... My dad bought some Seymour Duncan pickups off eBay, says they'll go into the bass he's going to build me He plans on carving the body himself, and buying all the other parts (including a neck). It'll most likely end up being a P-style 4-stringer. I'm leaning towards a fretless neck, but it's more his project than mine so whatever he ends up building, I'll play it Sorry for hijacking your non-thread

No problem; it's not a thread hi-jack because this thread doesn't really exist yet. I'll try to get pictures posted this weekend.
I'm sure a lot of you cats played this model before, but if you haven't she is worth a spin. Squier has been churning out some real nice ones recently.
First order of business was a solid tune-up. The neck had a banana-bow to it, but it was corrected with a quarter-turn of the truss rod over the past 2 nights. It's almost there, maybe a tweak tonight and it will be dead straight.
Hardware is pretty good, and I was pleasantly surprised with the pickups. Middle pickup is nice and warm and the bridge pickup has the classic jazz bite. My only gripe would be that the tone control is either all or nothing (to my ears), not much room in between. The bass is heavy too, all maple.

Is it in good shape, fresh smelling, fresh tasting or light green in color? Or none of the above because it doesn't exist...?

It's begging for an Audere preamp. Really. It is. Can't you hear it?

NICE! Methinks a Badass bridge would go wonderfully on this particular fish.

Excellent score for that price. Love that tuxedo neck with the natural finish.

One of my friends at church uses one of those when he plays for the worship team, and I just picked up the fretless Vintage modified Squier, which I'm in love with again. I don't think I'd change a thing on either of them. They both sound mighty good stock.

very nice!!
Amazing to me that the photo of the back has two light-glares from the flash that are exactly the size of a dime.

Thanks all for the well wishes. I had a nice sit-down over the weekend with my new bass and gave it a few hours of play. It sounds nice with all the knobs dimed, but the limitiations of the pickups do become apparent when rolling off/tweaking the pups and tone knob. I have been looking for a backup to my Stingray, and after all these basses, I still haven't found one that feels as comfortable as the ol' Music Man. This Squier is nice, and nothing against the sound/build/look of the bass, but the feel is just not there, kind of difficult to explain. It's fate is still up in the air. Amazing to me that the photo of the back has two light-glares from the flash that are exactly the size of a dime.
That picture was taken on purpose, I think...
