I found a couple of pieces from the first episode of Night Music I ever saw. He gets a couple of good solos, but eh best part is the tail out where he and David Sanborn trade 16s.

Th is one has a pretty tasty solo by Hiram Bullock, He got such a killer tone. And Thompsons out-of-left-field whammy bar work is weird but surprisingly cool.

I loved that show, and I loved those particular performances! You're right about Thompson's quirky but thoroughly tasty whammy-work. I used to have 'em on VHS that I'd taped from TV broadcast.

Does anyone know off the top of their head, are episodes/seasons of that series available on DVD releases?

I've heard that they aren't available on DVD, because Lorne Michaels, who owns a sizable chunk of the show, won't release them till he gets a bigger percentage than he's been offered so far, or at least was up to a couple of years ago.

Anyways, those are great; and Hiram Bullock was always so cool on that show!

I'm tryin' to remember; who else used to hold down the guitar spot, when Hiram wasn't there?

I think I remember reading that Robben Ford was in that house band for a brief time... can anyone corroborate?

Ah-HAH! Here it is, I just had to word my search-query just-right: Wikipedia / Sunday Night

According to the Wikipedia article, Robin Ford did in fact appear as the show's house-band guitarist in the 1989/"4th Lineup".

There's a lot, and I mean A LOT of info there, including all of the musical guests in each episode of the program.
