Good morning, this post might be a bit lengthy so apologies.

I manage and engineer at a community focused (ie low cost, local govt supported) venue, studio, rehearsal space. We have recently had our building rebuilt and now i need to make some decisions regarding treatment for the studio and control room.

1. Sizes, materials
Studio 7.17m w x 8.32m l x 3.25m h (ceiling has slight apex so h is approx ave.)

Control Room 7.17m w x 5.79m l x 3.5m at front wall 2.5m at back wall.

Common wall studio/control room is the 7.17m smile

Walls are parallel.

Floors-Standard commercial carpet tile on concrete
Ceilings-Suspended 'Eurocoustic' ceiling tiles (manufactured by Saint Gormain)
Walls-Double layer of Gib, 1 layer regular, 1 layer 'Noiseline' (gib maybe = drywall?) 2 Walls, Gib is batoned on to concrete block, 2 walls have timber frame filled with Autex 'QuietStuf'

2. I think, maybe...
Sooo...Im thinking corner bass traps based on the designs ive seen here and GS etc, using Rockwool (no owens corning here!) in simple frames or bags (my GF can make the bags easy smile And maybe some clouds...

3. Questions
Should my bass traps go full height from floor to ceiling?

Clouds, Y/N?

Do i need absorbers or diffusers or a combination?

4. Other stuff
The Studio has some pretty bad flutter echoes, but some temp treatment we put in (old home made baffles) cured that so i figure corner bass traps will too.

And we are a not for profit organisation, we raised 2/3's of the cost of renovation our selves, but there isnt a lot of $$ at this stage, despite this bit being kinda crucial smile So its gonna be as DIY as we can be.

Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

In closing, ive been reading a whole bunch, and maybe learning too thanks to the generous donation of time and information from a lot of you, really big thanks!

3. Rectangle rooms have 12 corners. The more total corner surface you treat the better. Always.

Then treat all the side-wall and ceiling reflection points.

Morning, and thanks for the reply.

I think my remaining confusion comes from...after ive treated the corners (of which there are many!) am i likely to treat the reflection points with diffusors or absorbers? Or will it be a matter of listening to the room to see whats required?

Thanks

Craig

Stick with absorption for the reflection points.

I agree. The one time I tried diffusors at the side-wall reflection points the sound was noticeably worse than with absorption there. Maybe in a very wide room, like 25 or 30 feet wide, diffusion would be okay. One of these days I'll try that. But for most rooms absorption is definitely better.
